August 7th, 2006 under Music. [ Comments: none ]

Dave Matthews Band will be releasing its first greatest hits compilation "in the near future," according to an email sent to the band’s newsletter subscribers. "In order to fulfill an obligation to their label," DMB will compile both studio and live tracks for the set, a release date for which has not been announced.Via an online poll, fans are being asked for their input on tracks for the as-yet-untitled album, including favorite live performances of a given song. The hits package is an apparent requirement as part of the new contract DMB signed with RCA in 2004. The group is also at work on a new studio album, which will be the follow-up to 2005’s "Stand Up."

August 3rd, 2006 under Blink-182, Music, Shanna Moakler. [ Comments: none ]

BLINK-182 bassist MARK HOPPUS has backed TOM DELONGE’s recent speculation the punk trio will never reform by revealing details of his new band. The rocker’s new project, featuring former bandmate TRAVIS BARKER on drums, is called PLUS 44 and a debut album is tentatively scheduled for October (06). Of the new record Hoppus says, "At first we had the idea that it would have a lot of electronic influences. "But then we bought this studio and after we moved the band into here, the whole vibe changed. There’s all kinds of stuff going on."

I love Blink 182 and I hope this not true. When they need they need the money they will be back. But sadly for the time being they are having successful solo careers.

The Who’s Towshends and Daltry internet war
July 27th, 2006 under Music. [ Comments: none ]

An inter-band feud has errupted in The Who over charity webcasts. The band have been offering live webcasts of their European tour dates at their website thewholive.tv for $10, with proceeds going to charity. However according to posts on guitarist Pete Townshend’s website petetownshend.co.uk, singer Roger Daltrey has disagreed with elements of the project and they are going to stop.Townshend has written: "Roger seems to think when I provide bandwidth for The Who website, and for live streaming, he is being exploited in some way and wants a piece of the future ‘profit’. Don’t think there is much chance of profit when it is all aimed at charity." "Daltrey seems to be unconvinced that the web has any real contribution to make to our career, and I am not going to spend any more time or money mortgaging my half of the stage," the guitarist writes.Townshend has set up a Hotmail address for fans to email Daltrey directly to help change his mind, it is thegreatevilweb@hotmail.com.Laying bare their relationship in his posts , Townshend has written: "Roger is my partner in The Who. He is not my partner in anything else. We love each other but we are not regular social buddies like Bono and The Edge, we do not discuss or share ideas, and we have no unified joint vision of strategy for The Who or for creative projects in general." He has also posted about the band’s new album: "I am mixing the last few tracks of the new Who record at my house in France. It’s starting to sound pretty good."

Death did wonders for Johnny Cash’s record sales
July 12th, 2006 under Music. [ Comments: none ]

Even in death, Johnny Cash is still mighty enough to top The Billboard 200. "American V: A Hundred Highways" earns the Man in Black his first No. 1 album since 1969’s "Johnny Cash at San Quentin" with 88,000 copies sold in the United States, according to Nielsen Soundscan.
The American Recordings/Lost Highway effort also crowns the Top Country Albums tally, knocking the Dixie Chicks’ "Taking the Long Way" (Columbia) to No. 2 after seven weeks on top.
Though the top debut is a great posthumous achievement, the Rick Rubin-produced "American V" sold the fewest copies of a No. 1 debut since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking data in 1991. The previous low for a No. 1 debut belonged to Destiny’s Child’s "#1’s" in 2005, which started with 113,000.
