If you have been following the saga of Rock Star Supernova (the group, not necessarily the TV show), you probably heard that just after they had solved the knotty problem of being sued over their intended name, Supernova, they suffered another blow. Well, actually, the blow was suffered by ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted, who was sidelined after a piece of equipment fell on him and required surgery in both shoulders. With an album out Nov. 21 and a tour beginning New Year’s Eve, the band was forced to find a substitute until Newsted recovers. That sub: Johnny Colt, who was with the Black Crowes in their early days.

Actually I think they have a better chance of surviving and finishing the tour without Newsted.

Rock Star Supernova have suffered a major setback with the loss of bassist Jason Newsted. The former Metallica member is scheduled for immediate surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder and a rotator cuff and bicep tear in the right. Newsted suffered the injuries while trying to catch his 90-pound bass head that had fallen from his amp. The surgery and rehab could have him sidelined for up to nine months. "I’m freaking out," says Newsted, "My heart was set on finally getting on the road with these guys, but my main focus now is to build myself back to 100%. The stage is set for the band, I wish them the best of luck."

Now if only he was never on the show to begin with, I think I would’ve enjoyed it more! It will be interesting to see what they are going to do without him?
