Now Madonna in trouble with David’s dad over circumcision?
December 11th, 2006 under Madonna. [ Comments: none ]

Madonna’s adoption of an African boy has erupted in controversy yet again. The Material Girl reportedly wants to get little David Banda circumcised, which is both the tradition of the Kabbalah faith she follows and an American custom. But the Malawian tot’s birth father apparently objects. “This goes against the Christian religion and is not something we would ever consider in Africa,” Yohanne Banda said, reports the London Sun. “We don’t ever get circumcised here. I would urge her to think again.”

Now I wonder if Madonna made Guy get circumcised when they got married?

Judge rules against Madonna and for the Human Rights Groups
November 29th, 2006 under Madonna. [ Comments: none ]

Human rights organizations will help decide whether Madonna is fit to adopt a Malawian toddler, a judge ruled Wednesday. Judge Andrew Nyirenda ruled in favor of a coalition of 67 Malawian human rights and child advocacy groups who want to be party to the assessment of the 48-year-old pop singer’s fitness as a mother. On Oct. 12, Nyirenda granted Madonna and her husband, filmmaker Guy Ritchie, an interim order allowing them to take initial custody of 14-month-old David Banda. The couple were allowed to take David to their London home. Malawi regulations stipulate that prospective parents undergo an 18-to 24-month assessment period in the country. The rights groups, saying they were concerned the government had cut legal corners to fast-track the adoption, said regulations must be followed to protect children. "I must stress that all along we have not been against the adoption but we only wanted Malawi’s adoption laws clarified and followed to the letter," said Justin Dzonzi, a lawyer and chairman of the Human Rights Consultative Commission. "Today’s ruling gives us the opportunity to clear (up) some gray areas surrounding adoption laws in Malawi." Nyirenda said in his written order that he saw no reason to refuse the rights groups’ application. "I believe the applicants mean well and this court will certainly benefit from the applicants’ researched opinions," he said. The organizations will now be part of the government’s first assessment of Madonna and Ritchie, expected next May. In a country ravaged by AIDS, an estimated 2 million children have lost one or both parents and hundreds are adopted by foreigners every year. Madonna’s adoption bid coincided with her larger project to help Malawian orphans. The human rights groups have argued that Malawi needs to ensure the adoption process cannot be exploited by pedophiles or child traffickers.

Sounds like she might lose David if they tried this hard to make the decision whether or not she could adopt him?

Did Madonna’s new book bomb because of David’s adoption?
November 17th, 2006 under Books, Madonna. [ Comments: none ]

It may not be true after all that all publicity is good publicity. Take Madonna. Her hellacious month of bad press concerning the adoption, legal or otherwise, of a Malawian child has turned out to be a buzz kill for book sales. "The English Roses: Too Good to Be True" has been an out-and-out bust so far. Madonna’s latest children’s book, released on Oct. 24, has sold just 9,000 copies, according to Nielsen Bookscan. By contrast, the first "English Roses" book has sold 350,000 copies since its release in 1993. But most of those were sold soon after publication. It’s not like Madonna didn’t do anything for this new book. She did interviews with Oprah, Regis, "Dateline," etc. But by the time she did them, the adoption scandal was in full force. Despite some positive feedback, Madonna has mostly been criticized for prying a 1-year-old away from his father. Rarely in pop culture history has a plan so exploded in a celebrity’s face. It probably didn’t help that this column pointed out that Madonna’s children’s books bear a warning that all proceeds go to Philip Berg’s Kabbalah organization. Of course, the irony there is that the proceeds, according to publisher Callaway Editions, go to Madonna, and then she writes the check to Kabbalah. “We have no idea what she does with the money,” says a Callaway source.

No more adoptions for Madonna?
November 16th, 2006 under Madonna. [ Comments: none ]

Reports have been circulating that Madonna is ready to adopt another baby from Malawi — this time a girl. Media outlets even have the Material Mom quoted as saying, “I’m going to adopt another Malawian child very quickly. A baby girl this time.” But Liz Rosenberg, Madonna’s rep, tells Life & Style exclusively that those reports are false and the quotes are made up. "Madonna has stated that she wishes she could adopt all the children of Malawi, and in a way I guess she is by building her orphan care center through the Raising Malawi Organization,” Rosenberg tells Life & Style. “But there are no plans to actually adopt another child."

Can’t say I blame her with all the troubles she has had with David. What I have to commend her on is that fact that she is building an orphan care center for the kids left behind! She is not just making it a photo-op like other celebs.

Britney called Madonna to tell her about the divorce
November 14th, 2006 under Britney Spears/KFed, Madonna. [ Comments: none ]

For those of us who believe Britney Spears’ divorce and her career comeback go hand-in-hand, here’s an interesting morsel. Before the news of Brit’s divorce filing hit on Nov. 7, she placed a phone call that had been on her mind for months, reaching out to her estranged friend and former mentor, Madonna, an insider tells Life & Style. But there was one small problem: Britney no longer had the Material Mom’s phone number — she changes her phone number frequently and shares it with a very tight, hand-picked circle of friends that Brit wasn’t included in. So Britney called the New York office of Madonna’s publicist, Liz Rosenberg, says the insider. “She just called and said, ‘Can you tell Madonna I called to let her know I filed for divorce?” the insider says. The person who answered the phone expressed sorrow about the divorce, but Britney responded politely in an even tone: “Thank you, but she’ll be thrilled. I wanted to let her know before it hit, but I didn’t have her number in London and wasn’t sure how to reach her if she was in New York.” Britney then left her number for Madonna to return her call, which Madge seemed eager to do once she received the message. When an employee in Madonna’s office reached Madge and gave her Britney’s phone number, Madonna said, “Great. I have this number. This is good news.”

Maybe it was Kevin that came between the two of them?
