Last Sunday, as Kevin Smith was having a massive heart attack, he was filming a comedy special. Some have wondered if he would still release what they have or put it in a vault somewhere, never to be seen.
Over the weekend, he posted a photo from the standup and gave an update on the special.
“Spending my Saturday night watching the standup special that @comedydynamics was shooting last weekend, right before that ghastly fella with the scythe and dark robe showed up and tapped me on my shoulder. If I had checked out permanently, this would’ve been a great little document to leave in my wake: there’s some legit funny shit in it! I’m watching closely for possible edits (gotta get it down to 75 minutes) but also for possible signs of the impending heart attack. This dopey sumbitch in the video thinks shooting this show is the biggest thing that’s gonna happen to him that night. He has no clue he’s about to go on the adventure of a lifetime to meet the God of Death and tell him “Not today.” (P.S. – A very cool network has already bought the special. I’ll let you know which one it is when the deal’s done.) #KevinSmith #comedy #editing #whatadifferenceadaymakes
Whichever network bought it, needs to do a pre or post special with him talking about his heart attack and what he went through that night. To run it without that, would be a disgrace.
Although, his comedy specials are pretty funny without any subcontext.

Kevin Smith is no longer Silent Bob about his heart attack |

On Sunday night, Kevin Smith suffered a massive heart attack aka the widow maker, but he is alive today to talk about it. Yesterday, he went on Facebook Live to reassure his fans that he is on the mend in his own special way.
He starts off the 18 minute video talking about Sunday night when he started to feel nauseous after his did he first comedy show at the Alex Theater in Glendale. Then he started getting sicker and he had difficulty breathing. When he could not get comfortable, he told Jason Mewes’ wife and his hair person to call a doctor.
Since it was a Sunday, they sent an ambulance to help him out. When the EMTs got there, they wanted to lift his shirt, but he is very modest and did not want him to do it. Eventually they got their way and took him in to the hospital. Throughout all of this he remained calm, mostly because he did not know he had a massive heart attack.
When he got to the hospital, they confirmed he had a heart attack and wanted to give him in a stent in his heart. In order to that they have to go up his groin. If you thought he was humble about his shirt, he is even more humble when it comes to his small dick. He spent a few minutes talking about it. Anyways, eventually he let them shave him, pull down his underwear and do their magic.
Once they cleared his artery and blood was flowing through his body again, he started to feel better. Doctors have prescribed him a week off to recuperate, which means he will ot be able to direct The Goldbergs season finale. But I am sure Adam F Goldberg will invite back next season to direct an episode or more.
He is not taking that moment lightly and started to tear up about he was OK with dying at that moment. He doesn’t want to die, but he is OK with it if it were to happen.
Another thing that is getting him through this all is the well wishes from people who do not normally say nice things about him. When I first moved to LA, I covered the Jay & Silent Bob junket and premiere. I got to know him for a few minutes, and I really liked him. A few weeks afterwards, I saw him in he Von’s by my house, and he walked away from me when he saw me because his friend Ben Affleck was in rehab. I bet he thought I was going to ask him about it. Something I would never do if we were off camera. But he didn’t know that. Anyways, I was hurt, but was never mad at him about it. I was a Kevin Smith fan before that and a bigger one afterwards. Which is why I can’t wait to see the movie he is eventually going to do about his heart attack.
First we will let him heal and then we can enjoy him coming back at life with full force. Knock them alive Kevin.
UPDATE: Kevin Smith is home now and posted this message on Twitter, “Home again, home again, jiggety-jig! Home is where the heart is and the heart is feeling good! It’s actually getting more blood flow and oxygen than it has in a long time. So I am ALERT, to say the least! Thank you for all the kind words, folks – from Vegetarian Kev, Day 2!”

Kevin Smith was doing 2 shows yesterday in Glendale when he noticed he was not feeling well during the 1st show. He did not screw around, so he went to hospital. Good thing he did because if he didn’t, he would not be alive right now. He explained what happened on Instagram:
I was trying to do a killer standup special this evening but I might’ve gone too far. After the first show, I felt kinda nauseous. I threw up a little but it didn’t seem to help. Then I started sweating buckets and my chest felt heavy. Turns out I had a massive heart attack. The Doctor who saved my life at the #glendale hospital told me I had 100% blockage of my LAD artery (also known as “the Widow-Maker” because when it goes, you’re a goner). If I hadn’t canceled the second show to go to the hospital, the Doc said I would’ve died tonight. For now, I’m still above ground! But this is what I learned about myself during this crisis: death was always the thing I was most terrified of in life. When the time came, I never imagined I’d ever be able to die with dignity – I assumed I’d die screaming, like my Dad (who lost his life to a massive heart attack). But even as they cut into my groin to slip a stent into the lethal Widow-Maker, I was filled with a sense of calm. I’ve had a great life: loved by parents who raised me to become the individual I am. I’ve had a weird, wonderful career in all sorts of media, amazing friends, the best wife in the world and an incredible daughter who made me a Dad. But as I stared into the infinite, I realized I was relatively content. Yes, I’d miss life as it moved on without me – and I was bummed we weren’t gonna get to make #jayandsilentbobreboot before I shuffled loose the mortal coil. But generally speaking, I was okay with the end, if this was gonna be it. I’ve gotten to do so many cool things and I’ve had so many adventures – how could I be shitty about finally paying the tab. But the good folks at the Glendale hospital had other plans and the expertise to mend me. Total strangers saved my life tonight (as well as my friends @jordanmonsanto & @iamemilydawn, who called the ambulance). This is all a part of my mythology now and I’m sure I’ll be facing some lifestyle changes (maybe it’s time to go Vegan). But the point of this post is to tell you that I faced my greatest fear tonight… and it wasn’t as bad as I’ve always imagined it’d be. I don’t want my life to end but if it ends, I can’t complain. It was such a gift. #KevinSmith
It sounds like not only will he go through physical lifestyle changes, he went through some mental ones too. I would not be surprised if he does a movie about it and I will be there on opening day. His movies, with all of their humor, have a lot heart. Imagine what he could do with his story. Which he will do because he will be better soon and back touring the country with his unique humor!

Kevin Smith’s Words of Wizdumb! |

A fan asked Kevin Smith how he deals with his insecurities, and his advice is something we can adhere to. He said, “Insecurity is a fictional story that we tell ourselves about what we fear the world oakecvinsmih thinks of us. So since it’s all made up just tell yourself a BETTER fictional story, in which everything always works out OK. If you’re gonna make shit up anyway, might as well make it positive.”
He is so right. Most of us our own worst critic, so why don’t we become our best reviewer. I mean he did make Jersey Girl with Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, after the two of them did Gigli, and he still saw it as a good movie.
Seriously though, one of my favorite all-time scenes from any movie is from Jay & Silent Bob. At the end of the movie, they go knocking on the doors of all the people who gave them bad reviews on the internet and beat the crap out of them. Imagine if we could do that to our online bullies. Since we legally can’t, then we need turn the negatives into a positive.

Has Silent Bob met his match? |

To me, Kevin Smith is as much Silent Bob as he is himself. Therefore, we I saw this photo of him with a mime in Vancouver, I wondered who remained silent longer. Since they are both so good at zipping. Not an imaginary plastic bubble but their mouths.
Who do you think was quieter for a longer period of time? And I am I the only person who likes mimes?
