Daniel Craig refused to go from Blond, James Blond |

James Bond actor Daniel Craig pumped iron for months to build up a 007 torso, but there was one dramatic change he would not undertake – the man with the golden gun refused to part with his golden hairdo. Despite pressure from directors, Craig would not change the colour of his locks from blond to dark brown for Casino Royale, which is on course to become the most successful Bond film ever. He said: "I was asked to dye my hair brown to play this role but it was out of the question. "I suggested instead that I could cut my hair really short to create a more brutal appearance." Those who initially opposed Craig as Ian Fleming’s legendary British agent cited a number of factors, ranging from his height – at 5ft 11in he is shorter than all the previous Bond actors by at least 2in – to his unremarkable looks. But it was his hair which provoked the most criticism, with many referring to him as "James Blond’. Answering critics that he often appeared more like a "James Bond girl’ in some scenes, especially when he emerges from the sea wearing nothing but a pair of swimming trunks, Craig agreed. He said: "The times change. That scene was a wink to Ursula Andress in Dr No, who also played Vesper Lynd in the first Casino Royale in 1967. Four decades later and it’s James who leaves the water in swimming trunks and attracts the looks." The criticisms, however, have faded away as Casino Royale raked in the biggest-ever opening for a Bond film in Britain last weekend, as it grossed £13.4million and topped the UK box office.

I have to admit at first I hated that he was a blond Bond, but now I like it!

Casino Royale bringing the Martini back |

The latest James Bond film has revived the popularity of the Martini cocktail ingredient dry white vermouth, a retailer said today. Tesco reported a record 65% rise in sales since Casino Royale hit the big screen. Demand has been fuelled by fans creating their versions of the famous "shaken not stirred" drink at Bond-themed parties, the retailer said. Sales of dry white vermouth – which is made by Martini and other brands – usually peak only during the warm summer months, Tesco said. The chain’s spirits buyer Simon Dunn said: "Martini cocktails have made a bit of a comeback in trendy city bars in the last year but this is the first time we have seen a significant rise in demand for bottles of vermouth." Martini cocktails are made with dry white vermouth plus either gin or vodka with an added green olive.

Daniel Craig used a penis double because he is no 007″ |

Daniel Craig had penis doubles for his sex scenes in ‘Casino Royale’. The British actor – who inherited the role of the suave spy from Pierce Brosnan – was not confident his appendage would measure up to the expectations of 007 fans and asked for stand-ins to do the nude scenes instead. He said: "I had stunt men all the way. Stunt p**is? I’ve got four or five." Despite his bedroom jitters, the blonde actor insisted on doing his own action stunts, even though he often ended up getting injured. He added: "I got hurt every day. All the stunt guys are as hard as teak – I couldn’t show any pain in front of them." Although he is worried about his penis, Craig apparently has nothing to worry about in that department, according to his co-star Dame Judi Dench.

Ewan McGregor turned down the James Bond role |

DANIEL Craig landed the James Bond role only after Ewan McGregor turned it down, says the director of new 007 movie Casino Royale. Martin Campbell admitted Star Wars favourite Ewan was their first choice – but snubbed the offer because he feared becoming typecast. He said Ewan was approached early in the hunt to replace Pierce Brosnan as 007. He added: "I think he got another job or decided he didn’t want it." Advertisement Campbell also said he "wasn’t totally convinced" Craig, 38, would match up to previous Bonds. The admission is the latest in a series of setbacks. He was labelled "too soft" by fans following reports he is scared of heights and he was injured in his first fight scene. Craig was also humiliated by claims he could not cope with gears in Bond’s Aston Martin and needed an automatic. McGregor said last year that playing Bond might have been fun, but he was worried about the long-term nature of the role.

Now he would’ve been hot as James Bond! Him in a tuxedo, smoking!
