Ewan McGregor turned down the James Bond role
October 22nd, 2006 under James Bond. [ Comments: none ]

DANIEL Craig landed the James Bond role only after Ewan McGregor turned it down, says the director of new 007 movie Casino Royale. Martin Campbell admitted Star Wars favourite Ewan was their first choice – but snubbed the offer because he feared becoming typecast. He said Ewan was approached early in the hunt to replace Pierce Brosnan as 007. He added: "I think he got another job or decided he didn’t want it." Advertisement Campbell also said he "wasn’t totally convinced" Craig, 38, would match up to previous Bonds. The admission is the latest in a series of setbacks. He was labelled "too soft" by fans following reports he is scared of heights and he was injured in his first fight scene. Craig was also humiliated by claims he could not cope with gears in Bond’s Aston Martin and needed an automatic. McGregor said last year that playing Bond might have been fun, but he was worried about the long-term nature of the role.

The first review of Daniel Craig as James Bond
October 20th, 2006 under James Bond. [ Comments: none ]

CASINO ROYALE is the most eagerly awaited Bond movie ever. It’s not out in Britain until November 16 but here The Sun’s secret agent The Sneak gives Sun readers the world’s first review. He has gone undercover to infiltrate a preview screening of the film, starring Brit Daniel Craig. I WONDERED if I should do two versions of my review — one for the Bond fans who prefer the tongue-in-cheek Roger Moore and another for those who long for a return to Sean Connery’s classic From Russia With Love. To be honest, those 007 fans who want more Moore — or Pierce Brosnan back — will not like what I am about to say. And that is: Daniel Craig is the best Bond since Connery. Craig’s performance is so strong he could even make moviegoers forget there was anyone between himself and Connery. He plays the gritty, tougher-than-nails secret agent novelist Ian Fleming meant the world to see. With his bulked-up frame, intense blue eyes and don’t-mess-with-me attitude, Craig makes Brosnan look a bit girlie in comparison.

I thought he was going to bomb as Bond, guess I was wrong.

New Bond told old Bond that he was no longer Bond.

Craig Told Brosnan He Was No Longer Bond…. Daniel Craig broke Pierce Brosnan’s heart when he told the Irishman he had been dropped as James Bond at an awards ceremony in February (06). Craig had been offered the coveted 007 role and was sure producers had already informed Brosnan his four-movie run as Bond had come to an end – but they hadn’t. He recalls, "I said, ‘Look, this is a possibility, what do you think?’ "I don’t know if I gave him much choice, but he said, ‘Go for it.’ (I can’t believe) he didn’t hit me."

The new Bond movie set is smoking
July 30th, 2006 under James Bond. [ Comments: none ]

A blaze erupted Sunday on the set of the latest James Bond movie west of London, but no injuries were reported, fire officials said. The fire broke out just before 11:30 a.m. at Pinewood Studios, about 19 miles west of London, Buckinghamshire Fire Brigade said.Eight fire engines were called to the set, officials said. Television footage showed plumes of smoke rising from the building, with the roof of the "Casino Royale" set charred and caved in. "It is just a complete mess," said Fraser Pearson, spokesman for the Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. "I would say the whole building has been damaged by the fire. It is still smoking quite badly. There has definitely been a large blaze here." The vast stage had been transformed into a replica of Venice, Italy, where part of the film is set. "Casino Royale," due for release in October, will be the first film featuring actor Daniel Craig as agent 007.
