 As the world knows, Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, Notebook co-stars turned real-life lovebirds, have re-united as a couple. But wait, there’s more! An insider tells Life & Style the couple are finally re-engaged and back to making long-term plans together after a “touchy” reconciliation period, during which neither was sure of their decision. “Ryan didn’t have to repropose,” says the insider. “He and Rachel just agreed it was time to think about getting married again because they had worked out their problems. Ryan says he’s thrilled that Rachel is wearing her engagement ring again, which Ryan gave her early in 2005. It was always a secret engagement, and they will never confirm it publicly, but it’s back on, and they’re happy again, planning some family vacations together and doing the private-party rounds to support Ryan’s role in Half Nelson.” The insider says the lovebirds aren’t interested in a high-profile wedding and instead are planning a very small elopement. “Ryan says they’re looking for a good time to slip away and do it,” says the insider, “and he’s even said New Year’s might be the perfect time for him and Rachel to make things permanent. Starting a family and sharing their lives together is so much more important to them than which magazine they can sell their wedding pictures to.” They’re also planning on buying a big apartment or town house in Toronto, says the insider. Maybe to start a family? We sure hope so!

Scrubs star Sarah Chalke is engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Jamie Afifi, her rep tells PEOPLE exclusively. The groom-to-be surprised the actress, 30, and proposed during a Hawaiian vacation last week. The Canadian-born Chalke, now in her sixth season on NBC’s Scrubs playing Dr. Elliot Reid, was on hiatus from the show when Afifi proposed. She returned to work on Monday. Afifi, who is also a native of Canada, is a 33-year-old entertainment lawyer.

 Eva Longoria and NBA star Tony Parker are engaged, PEOPLE has confirmed. "Eva and Tony are officially engaged," Longoria’s rep, Liza Anderson, tells PEOPLE. "The couple have never been happier." Longoria, 31, and the French-born Parker, 24, a point guard for the San Antonio Spurs, met in November 2004. Though they played coy at first, by August 2005, the Desperate Housewives star confirmed they were a couple, asking PEOPLE rhetorically, "What’s not to like?" The pair weathered a brief split in September but quickly rekindled their relationship in Paris. The couple took in the sights, partied at the VIP Room and dined at the famed Le Coupe-Chou in the City of Light. Longoria told PEOPLE in April she is happiest when in a relationship – and said she expects to stay with Parker "forever."

 Roma Downey (Touched By An Angel) has become engaged to marry reality TV super-producer Mark Burnett (The Apprentice, Survivor), Celebrity Week has learned exclusively. The proposal, we hear, took place in Mexico over Thanksgiving weekend. The couple began dating in 2004. No wedding date has been set. The twice-divorced Irish actress, 46, eloped and married actor Leland Orser in Rome in 1987. Her 1996 wedding to Rudy director David Anspaugh – (they have a daughter together, Riley Marie, 10) – was officiated by her friend and co-star Della Reese. Burnett, 46, divorced wife Diane in 2003. They have two sons, James and Cameron.

 Ellen Pompeo, 37, and her boyfriend of nearly three years, Chris Ivery, are engaged, Pompeo’s rep confirms to Us Weekly. Ivery proposed on Friday, which was also the actress’ birthday. Pompeo plays Meredith Grey on the hit ABC medical dramedy Grey’s Anatomy. She has also starred in Old School and Moonlight Mile. Ivery, 38, is a music producer. The couple met in an L.A. grocery store. Though Pompeo wasn’t interested in a date originally, she agreed to go out with Ivery when they bumped into each other again several days later. They discovered that they grew up in Boston 10 miles from each other. "I had to go 3,000 miles away to meet a guy who practically grew up next door," she laughed. "But I guess everything comes full circle."
