Before Dustin Diamond was known as Screech on Saved By the Bell, he was part of a magic act that made us screech in Big Top Pee-Wee. How cute was the 10-year-old in that 1988 movie?
Dustin Diamond passed away today at the age of 44 after a very short battle with cancer.
His team released this statement, “We are saddened to confirm of Dustin Diamond’s passing on Monday, February 1st, 2021 due to carcinoma. He was diagnosed with this brutal, relentless form of malignant cancer only three weeks ago. In that time, it managed to spread rapidly throughout his system; the only mercy it exhibited was its sharp and swift execution. Dustin did not suffer. He did not have to lie submerged in pain. For that, we are grateful.”
Diamond is best known for playing Screech on Saved By the Bell. Even though the role made him a household name, it also destroyed him. After the show ended, he had a hard time with life, including an arrest, bankruptcy, and a sex tape.
He appeared on several reality shows as the bad guy. It was an image they created for him, but it wasn’t him. He never got a chance to redeem himself. Hopefully, now he will get it.
Today, let’s remember his good times and watch him in the role that made us fall in love with the lovable nerd.
About two weeks ago, Dustin Diamond checked into the hospital due to severe pain. Doctors were able to determine that he has stage 4 cancer, and now they know which one he has.
“The stage 4 small cell carcinoma diagnosis is definitely not what we were hoping for. However Dustin is being treated and fighting this,” his rep wrote. “Those of us close to him will make sure he receives the messages of love and support. Will bring letters to him. Thank you so much for all the love.”
Diamond has already had his first round of chemo and will be going through another one shortly. He desperately needs your prayers to beat this cancer at such a late stage.
Dustin Diamond was diagnosed with cancer last week in the hospital, and yesterday a source gave Us Weekly an update on his condition.
“It’s not good, it’s not good at all. He’s going to be in the hospital for a while. He’s getting through his treatments now. It’s tough, it’s very hard,” a source told the magazine. “He’s going through a lot of pain, but he still keeps his spirits up. Right now, he’s just suffering. He has his ups and downs where he’s great one minute, but then he can be in a lot of pain — tears. It’s such an emotional time.”
The Saved By the Bell actor is being comforted by those close to him, including his girlfriend. However, because of COVID-19, most of the interaction is being done via the phone.
Doctors are still working to find out exactly what stage his cancer is at. Once they know that, then an insider says they will know more about his future.
Hopefully, they will figure that soon. Until then, let’s all say a prayer for him.
“He’s undergoing chemo so he will be there at least another week and then we will figure out when he gets to come home,” explains his rep. “By next week, we’ll have a much better understanding of the severity of his condition and what treatments he will need so that he’s comfortable.”
To make matters worse for the actor, he also has Shingles.
His rep says that he wants to hear from you so you can send him a Get Well card (no autograph requests) to Insurance King, C/O Dustin Diamond, 127 N. Alpine Rd, Rockford, Il 61107, or an email to [email protected]
One of the people who has reached out to him is his Saved By the Bell co-star Mario Lopez. “I connected with Dustin earlier this evening and although the news of his diagnosis is heartbreaking, we remain positive that he’ll overcome this,” Lopez wrote. “Praying for him & his family and for a speedy recovery.”
Hopefully, he will beat cancer and recover quickly. Then when he is better, he can make a guest appearance on the SBTB reboot on Peacock.
