It has been over a month since Thomas Gibson was let go from Criminal Minds, and today CBS announced that they have cast a new series regular.
Damon Gupton will be joining the procedural during its 8th episode as “Special Agent Stephen Walker from the Behavioral Analysis Program which is the counterintelligence division of the FBI.” That is a lot of words to describe what his character will do. Since I don’t watch, I will assume that it is all good for the fans of the show that still popular in its 12th season.
When it comes to Gibson, his last episode airs this Wednesday. It will be interesting to see how they get out of it because he was suspended during the making of it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWVMR0_Wb2U The Big Bang Theory is back on CBS tonight at 8p and you are all cordially invited to the wedding of Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki). What comes with a wedding, family. We are going to meet Penny’s mom and Katey Segal has played her mother before on the show 8 Simple Rules. Also joining the show tonight is Jack McBrayer as her brother who just got of jail. Keith Carradine returns as her dad as does Leonard’s parents Christine Baranski and Judd Hirsch.
With all of those amazing guest stars, you know it is going to be a wedding we won’t soon forget.

Then at 8:30p, Kevin James returns to TV in Kevin Can Wait as a recently retired cop. His wife Donna (Erinn Hayes) is very supportive, but even she has her limits. They have 3 kids and one is away at college. That all changes when their oldest (Taylor Spreitler) comes home to tell her parents she has dropped out of college to support her fiance’ (Ryan Cartwright). Kendra’s dad didn’t even know she as dating anyone, so imagine how pissed he is.
There you have the premise for the funny comedy. A retired cop, his wife and 3 kids trying to adjust to their new life on Long Island.
Last week, Thomas Gibson was fired from Criminal Minds because he allegedly kicked a writer and today he found a way to connect with his fans. The CBS procedural has a very loyal fan base. If they weren’t so loyal, the show wouldn’t be going into its 12th season as one of the top shows on broadcast television.
The actor has a message, and he joined Twitter to communicate with them. He said, “I wish I could thank each of you for your friendship & support. I love ‘Criminal Minds,’ & I’m disappointed by what’s happened. I’m here on #Twitter so we can stay connected in the days to come, and talk directly with each other. The support you show means the world to me and my family. This is not an ending, but a beginning as well. Thank you all.”
Just when you thought you might have seen the last of him, he found out with Social Media that is not the case.
I have a feeling in the coming days he will be saying a lot more, so you might want to follow him to see what he has to say.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9JGYCNyKhM A little over 24 hours after it was reported that Thomas Gibson was suspended from Criminal Minds for allegedly kicking a writer on the show during an argument two weeks ago, CBS and ABC Studios announced today that is suspension will be permanent. The network and the studio released this joint statement, “Thomas Gibson has been dismissed from Criminal Minds. Creative details for how the character’s exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date.”
With the additions of Aisha Tyler and Adam Rodriguez as series regulars this season, the show will be able to survive his firing. Maybe they can convince Shemar Moore to return, since his departure was left open-ended?
Since Gibson joined the procedural in 2005, he has had two alleged violent confrontations and he was also arrested for suspicion of DUI in 2013. You can understand why they said enough is enough. In the real work world, he would’ve been let go after the first incident in most places.
UPDATE: Thomas Gibson released this statement to The Hollywood Reporter, “I love Criminal Minds and have put my heart and soul into it for the last 12 years. I had hoped to see it through to the end, but that won’t be possible now. I would just like to say thank you to the writers, producers, actors, our amazing crew, and, most importantly, the best fans that a show could ever hope to have.”
There is always something with Criminal Minds and this season is about Thomas Gibson reportedly being suspended from the procedural. According to TMZ, the actor was directing a scene he was in when he got into a confrontation with a writer. The argument got so heated that Gibson allegedly kicked the writer in the leg. It is then reported the TV scribe didn’t let it die down, went to his agent who in turn went to CBS and the actor was suspended. The said incident happened about two weeks ago and Gibson has been absent since then.
Gibson told TMZ, “There were creative differences on the set and a disagreement. I regret that it occurred. We all want to work together as a team to make the best show possible. We always have and always will.”
Hopefully, they will make up soon because without Shemar Moore, who left the show last season, they really need Gibson.
BTW CBS got lucky that this story broke early this morning because yesterday was their TCA Summer Press Tour Day and they would’ve had to have answered that question in person as compared to over the phone or email.
