Doing a high five seems pretty easy. We teach babies how to do it at a very young age and they have no problem learning the lesson. Therefore, you would think everyone can do it. Right?
Well, Cate Blanchett cannot do one to save her life. A little factoid we learned on Live with Kelly and Ryan today. The Oscar winner tried to high five Kelly Ripa and almost missed. Thankfully the morning show host knows the secret to the perfect high five. It is all in the elbow. Look at the person’s elbow as you both try to connect hands and you will never miss.
How did Blanchett do? She missed, but that is because she did not talk to the elbow. When her eyes looked down, it worked. Thus, if she can do it, then anyone can do it. The next time she wins an Oscar, she will be all ready to high five everyone that offers one. That is if she remembers the trick.
Does the trick work? Try it for yourself to find out.

When you think of Cate Blanchett, you think of her as a classy lady. Turns out she isn’t always that way.
Yesterday, she was on The Tonight Show and she walked out chewing gum. When she sat down, the actress took it out of her mouth and placed it on Jimmy Fallon’s desk for their interview. Then she started playing with it until it was erect with tiny balls! Of course the NBC late night host wasn’t happy with her hand job, so he covered it up with different items. Which was a good distraction!
When that joked climaxed, they moved on to her Broadway play. He asked her about the belch she does during it. Turns out, it wasn’t a fluke. She can burp whenever she wants and is surprised that not everyone else can do it. I can’t do it, can you?
The Weinstein Company released a new TV spot for their Oscar nominated movie Carol, and ABC refuses to air it as is. They say that the scene with Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara is not suitable for broadcast television. A press release says that ABC will air it if, TWC “provides more coverage on both (ladies).”
Can’t say I blame the network because at :17 seconds in you can see The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’s nipple. Everyone knows, you can show a lot of things on television but a nipple is not one of them. That is why the actors are given special skin colored underwear to wear during sex scenes.
Cate Blanchett spent a long day doing the junket for Cinderella and she finally had enough with the stupid questions. The Project‘s Jonathan Hyla came into the room and tried to be funny with the Oscar winner and she wasn’t having it.
He started off the interview by telling her, even though he has been doing this for a long time, he’s never had the pleasure of interviewing her until now. She jokingly replied, “That’s because I keep saying no. I cannot talk to him. Can you please not let that man in the room.” He thought he was being smart and told her that he was going to bring a six-pack of beer into the room to break the ice. She let him know that she doesn’t drink beer and prefers a potato Vodka. She then shared with him, “If you want the sex to be good, that’s the Vodka. The beer’s just not going to cut it.”
She realized at this point, their interview had gone too far for the family movie she’s promoting and tried to bring it back to Cinderella. The interview went into another horrible place before she got things into order and that led to another awkward moment.
She had enough with his failed humor and got serious about the movie again. It was then when he tried to ask her a serious question and he wanted to know how she controlled the cat on a leash. At that point, she had enough. She scolded him by saying, “That’s your question? That’s your f*cking question?” When he tried to defend himself, she sarcastically told him, “Nice to meet you,” as she went to shake his hand. He went for a high five and they missed each other. He got up and walked out and their chat was over, but not forgotten.
As someone who tries to be witty during junket interviews, I can feel his pain. But unlike him, I do try to ask serious questions about the project too. As a reporter, if you see it is going badly, you need to try to salvage the interview. Not only for the package but also for future for opportunities. You would be surprised by how quickly you can find yourself getting blocked from future interviews, just by having a bad one like this one. Believe me, I’ve seen reporters get turned down for A-List interviews after one bad one-on-one with another one. Although Blanchett seemed to have fun with Hyla, so he should be OK.
I think the big take away from this interview, is you truly get to see what the actors go through during these junkets. This isn’t even that bad. Imagine what it is like when the reporter has to ask certain questions for other pieces. I once saw an actress almost in tears because the agenda question was too hard for her to answer and the reporter wouldn’t let up.
Cate Blanchett suffered a head injured during a live performance of A Street Car Named Desire in Sydney yesterday when she was hit by a radio. The script calls for her to be hit by the radio, but for some reason something went wrong according to what an audience member told Adelaide Now.
“She had blood streaming down the back of her head and blood on the back of her neck,” she said.
“She acted for about another 30 seconds, then ran into what we thought was the next scene, but before we knew it the lights were turned on and we were told there were technical difficulties and everyone had to evacuate the Sydney Theatre Company.”
The Oscar winner is doing better and as they say, “The show will go on.” Maybe Cate should stick to movies for her health?
