It takes a lot to get me excited these days, but the Travel Channel did just that today when they announced that they are bringing back Ripley’s Believe It or Not with the legendary Bruce Campbell as a host. The 10-episodes will debut this summer and film at their main museum in Orlando, Florida.
This is not the first time that Ripley’s has been on TV. The show ran for two seasons in 1949 and was hosted by Robert Ripley until his death. After his died, his friends filled in for him. Back in the ’80s, ABC gave it a try with hosts like Jack Palance and Marie Osmond. Then at the turn of the millennium, it was time for Dean Cain to take over the duties on TBS.
Throughout the decades, we watched people do things we would never believe could be done. Then when they did, it was so thrilling to witness. I cannot wait to see what they attempt this go around. You know they have to up the danger with Campbell as a host. Believe It or Not?
Plus, I love all the factoids they reveal between stunts.
A local Detroit car ad from 1984. My dad is the other guy in the “spot.” At that time, he was an aging ad man and I was a struggling actor. Together, we achieved sheer greatness. You can track the subtlety of my performances even then. pic.twitter.com/Gd6hYGoZ5a
Before Bruce Campbell was a con man in Burn Notice, he was a car salesman for Samson Buick. Even at 25, the actor knew how to command the camera in that 1984 commercial by his father, Charles.
Before Bruce Campbell played Elvis Presley in Bubba Ho-Tep, he was promoting WHYT, a radio station that probably would not have played The King. How much do you love seeing the 25-year-old with a mustache back in 1984.
Bruce Campbell is cult icon and woman have asked The Evil Dead star to leave his mark on their boobies. Over the years, he has perfected his technique and tonight on TBS’s Conan, he showed us how to do it. It is not as easy as just signing your name, the skin has to be positioned a certain way so that his autograph doesn’t go up in Ash. It really it quite fascinating to watch as he does it.
But let’s be real, once he got bored of going to second base with strangers, that is when he really learned how to do it!
Before Bruce Campbell became the horror icon he is thanks to movies like The Evil Dead, he teamed with his good friend Sam Raimi to make Within The Woods to raise funding so they could make The Evil Dead. How different does the 20 year old actor look with glasses and a few less pounds in that 1978 short film?
