Earlier today, TMZ revealed that Brian Dunkleman has been driving for Uber for a few year, and he took to social media to explain why.
The former American Idol host wrote, “I chose to stop doing standup comedy and started driving an Uber so I could be there for my son as much as he needed after our life as we knew it was destroyed. Print that. @TMZ @HarveyLevinTMZ.” Then he added, “And I make over a grand on a good week motherf*ckers.”
According to reports, their life was “destroyed” due to a messy divorce with the kid’s mother. You have to respect a father who puts his son ahead of his dreams. That is what a real man does.
Way back when, when tens of millions of people were watching American Idol, instead of just 10 million, there used to be another host standing next to Ryan Seacrest. That host was Brian Dunkleman. Remember him?
Well today he took to Twitter to give his critique of the ABC version of American Idol. He wrote, “American Idol was better when it was on @FOX. In 2002. Just kidding @ABC – you’re the best network on television!” Then he went on to Tweet that last part to NBC, CBS and Telemundo.
Who can argue with him that Idol was so much better in 2002 when Ryan had frosted tips and someone to play off of with Dunkleman, we didn’t know what to make of Simon Cowell, we loved guessing what mood Paula Abdul was going to be in and Randy Jackson. Those were the good old days when families got together to watch Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini with his Sideshow Bob hair battle it out to be the first American Idol. Little did we know the latter two were going to get a movie that would be unwatchable and Dunkleman would disappear not to be seen for 14 more seasons. Or that we would get 15 seasons of the show that would lose the original three over time and the likes of Ellen DeGeneres, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Steven Tyler and J-Lo.
If we only knew. In few weeks, ABC will be saying the same thing.

Before Brian Dunkleman was hosting American Idol, he was acting on Dharma & Greg. He looks the same now as he did when he was 27 in that 1999 episode.
Ever since it was announced that American Idol will be ending next season, everyone has been wondering if it’s biggest star will be back. Not Brian Dunkleman, but Simon Cowell. Well his ex-girlfriend, Terri Seymour, asked him just that for Extra and his answer is surprising. Almost surprising as the fact that he didn’t know it was ending.
When she asked him if he is sad about it, he said “I kind of said goodbye however many years ago.†So will he back, he told her, “I don’t really know, maybe I’ll flip the light switch off at the end or something.†I think that would be perfect.
So as of now Mariah Carey and the King of Mean are out, and I am sure some of the others like Nicki Minaj and Kara Dioguardi will also be missing from it next year. When it comes to who will be back, I am sure Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson, Ellen DeGeneres and Steven Tyler (as a performer) will be there before Simon is there to turn off the lights.
Are you going to miss Simon next year? Heck, we’ve all been missing him since he left.
