Remember one of the most memorable things about The Karate Kid was when Mr Myagi taught Daniel (Ralph Macchio) how to wax on and wax off to clean his car? Well, in the new promo for sequel series to their movie we find out if the Cobra Kai aka Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) has that same philosophy.
If YouTube Red’s Cobra Kai is going to have moments like this, it is so going to be hit! Considering it is from the guy, Jon Hurwitz, who gave us American Reunion and Harold & Kumar Go to the White Castle, I know we have a karate chop on our hands!
Ever since Ralph Macchio and William Zabka appeared on the last season of How I Met Your Mother together, we have wanted to see the two Karate Kids do something together. YouTube Red heard our desires and they are giving us a followup to their 1984 movie. Cobra Kai is coming to the streaming site and I cannot wait for it. Especially after seeing the first video released from the series today. Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso have not aged a day in 33 years. In fact, they look even better now than they did then! Don’t you agree?
Get your Wax On because YouTube Red is doing a Karate Kid revival with Daniel son and Johnny. Not only will Ralph Macchio and William Zabka reprise their roles, the 10-episode series will be a comedy.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Corba Kai “is set 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament and revolves around a down and out Johnny who, seeking redemption, reopens the infamous Cobra Kai dojo. It reignites his rivalry with a now-successful Daniel, who has been struggling to maintain balance in his life without the guidance of his mentor, Mr. Miyagi (the late Pat Morita). The half-hour comedy follows the duo addressing demons from their past and present frustrations — through (what else?) karate.”
How much do you want to bet that the wheels for this series, that debuts in 2018, were put into motion when they both guest starred as themselves on How I Met Your Mother? Right then and there, we knew these two needed to do a comedy together! Thankfully someone made it happen and I for one and am beyond excited for it.
Oh, I forgot to mention that Will Smith’s production company is producing the show. To me it sounds like even he knew his son’s remake sucked and the original was a million times better.
It has been 30 years since we got to know the Cobra Kai in The Karate Kid, and they reunited for a good cause. Johnny aka Billy Zabka challenged his Karate buddies to the endure the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, and Jimmy, Bobby and Tommy all accepted it. Even Mr Miyagi couldn’t prepare Tony O’Dell, Ron Thomas and Rob Garrison for the pain they were about to feel. Good thing their Sensei was there, not to support them but to push Zabka to pour the water on them. Sadly, for Martin Kove, his students challenged him and immediately sought their revenge.
Too bad Danielson aka Ralph Macchio was nowhere to be found because they have been seeking revenge on him for three decades, and it’s about time they finally got it.
BTW I have been waiting for group to host a reunion for the challenge and I am glad it was these five guys.
Even though it has been over 25 years since The Karate Kid film came out it looks like William Zabka aka Johnny Lawrence is still holding a grudge against Daniel San. The Cobra Kai member judged his performance on Dancing with the Stars, and in the video released by Jimmy Kimmel Live, he didn’t hold back. He ripped him a new one and hit him below his black belt. The Jaden Smith comment was a like a karate kick to the balls, but LaRusso handled it like the man Mr Miyagi made him to be. Too bad Pat Morita is no longer around to show him who is boss and wax the bully into shape.
BTW Zabka, LaRusso won the trophy in the movie and he is going to win the mirror ball trophy on Dancing with the Stars! So ha…
In all seriousness, there is no rivalry between the two actors…except for maybe for my heart because I still have a crush on both of them!!!
