The California Highway Patrol recommended Monday that actress-singer Brandy be charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in a freeway crash that killed a woman motorist last month, a city attorney’s spokesman told The Associated Press. The CHP referred the matter to the city attorney’s office for review, said spokesman Nick Velasquez. "The office is currently reviewing the case and determining whether the evidence warrants the filing of a misdemeanor charge of vehicular manslaughter," Velasquez said. A message seeking comment from Brandy’s publicist, Courtney Barnes, was not immediately returned. The charge carries a maximum sentence of one year in county jail and a $1,000 fine, Velasquez said. Prosecutors couldn’t say when they would make a decision about whether to bring a case. If charged, Brandy wouldn’t necessarily have to appear in court and could have her lawyer enter a plea, Velasquez said. Brandy, whose real name is Brandy Norwood, has publicly expressed condolences to the victim’s family, Barnes said last week. Barnes also has said Brandy wasn’t under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash. Brandy, 27, was driving a Land Rover on Interstate 405 on Dec. 30 when traffic slowed and her vehicle struck the back of Honda driven by Awatef Aboudihaj, 38, according to a CHP report. Aboudihaj’s car hit another vehicle, slid sideways into the center divider and was then hit by another car, the report said. Aboudihaj, a Los Angeles waitress, died at a hospital from blunt-force injuries, according to the coroner’s office. Bill Sayed, an attorney for Aboudihaj’s husband, said he supported the CHP’s recommendation.

Ryan O’Neal says his son started it |

RYAN O’NEAL is commenting on his recent arrest following an incident at his home involving his son GRIFFIN, and his son’s pregnant girlfriend. Ryan’s manager, NEIL HASSMAN, tells ET, "It is unfortunate that what should have been an internal family disagreement was escalated to the point that Ryan felt he had to defend himself from Griffin’s aggressive, extremely menacing physical behavior, (wildly swinging a fireplace poker), in the way he did. The injury to Griffin’s girlfriend was caused by Griffin himself and not Ryan, as has been alleged by Griffin. Of late, Ryan has extended himself so far as to insure the young lady, and her unborn child." "As this is now an open case, Ryan cannot comment any further, but certainly believes he will be completely vindicated after a thorough investigation."

Tracy Morgan pleads guilty for driving drunk |

Tracy Morgan pleaded guilty Wednesday to a misdemeanor drunken driving charge. The 38-year-old comic, who co-stars on the NBC sitcom “30 Rock,” submitted the plea in Manhattan Criminal Court in exchange for a conditional discharge, meaning he must meet conditions set by the court and the case against him will be dismissed. Judge Ellen Coin ordered Morgan to enter a doctor-supervised
alcohol program, do community service to be determined later, and avoid being arrested again within the next six months. The judge also fined Morgan $1,000 and suspended his driver’s license for six months. Outside court, Morgan, who came to court in a taxi with wife Sabina, apologized for his behavior. “Drinking and driving is not cool,” he said, and he promised he would never be in that situation again. On Dec. 2, 2005, Morgan was arrested in Hollywood on impaired driving charges after police stopped him for
speeding. Authorities there said his blood-alcohol level was 0.13 percent, over the legal limit of 0.08 percent. He leaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge and was sentenced to 36 months’ probation, fined $390 and ordered to attend an alcohol education program.
