Tonight at 9p on ABC Family we delve more into the mystery on Twisted. Avan Jogia, who plays Danny Desai, talks more about the role we all want to know about.
Before we find out more about Danny, the teenage killer who is back in town after spending 5 years in Juvie for killing his aunt, let’s find out what attracted him to the role. Jogia said, “Well, when I read the script I thought that’s kind of what intrigued me to the role actually.” Then he added, “Honestly it’s written in the way where it doesn’t matter what decisions they make the character do. It’s all very confusing because we don’t know if he’s just a down and out sociopath or if he’s just a very confused young teenager. It doesn’t matter what decision they go with you know.”
So how did he prep for the role of 16 year old that is seen as a sociopath by all of his classmates. He explained, “I watched the ridiculously insane American Psycho film. You know I just, I love film, so I probably watched them all even before I got to here.” It wasn’t only those type of films he was watching, as he told us “But I was really concentrating more than the sociopath aspect of Danny, I was also trying to concentrate on finding what it would be like to be in juvie and what defense mechanisms and walls you have to put up to not to have power in juvie and still be a power figure and not get messed with but also just to get through there without it. He often got good behavior so he obviously found a way to navigate that after 5 years.” And Jogia spent a lot of time researching where his character spent those last 5 years and he watched a lot of documentaries on the matter.”
Now it isn’t all bad stuff for Danny, what does he think of that triangle between him and his ex-BFFS Lacey and Jo. When asked if there is one, he said with a smile, “You cast three teenagers in a show, what do you want?” Does he think it will play out? He responded by saying, “You know look I think that as it stands right now Jo is Danny’s very good friend and Lacey, he just wants the unit back.” Then he added, “I think, here’s the difference now that they are teenagers there’s hormones and stuff. He just wants that original 11 year old unit back. But I think the bigger question is even if I didn’t go to juvie and did this awful thing, would we have all drifted apart anyway or would the two of us maybe got together romantically and leave the other person out? So it’s like, we’re just revisiting that whole thing under extreme circumstances. And so yeah I think that they will definitely play with that you know.”
Now as much as we all want to know about that love triangle, we also want to know more about that mysterious necklace that his dead aunt and Regina wore. What does he have to say about it? He said, “I think the necklace just becomes a important part of it all. It’s evidence and it links people to places and I think that’s kind of the first section of the season.” Then he shared with is, “So far he has been trying to figure out where that necklace went because you know she wore it all the time and now it’s gone. And we know as an audience that Danny has it, but no one else in the town knows that. So many questions, is it even the same necklace? We don’t know. But you’re going to really see them trying to get all the characters to understand you know more about this necklace and the history of it, and why it’s important to Danny.” Dun Dun Dunnn.
So tune tonight and every Tuesday night at 9p to find out more about Avan Jogia’s Twisted tale as Danny Desai on ABC Family.
Last week got to know to some of the teenagers from Green Grove, and today I have some interesting facts to share with you about the cast from ABC Family’s Twisted before you watch the show tonight at 9p.
Last week we got to see how three buddies’ friendship changed with each other when one of them killed his aunt when they were just 11. Now that 16 year old Danny is back, his ex-friends Jo and Lacey have to adjust to having him back in their life. It is all made even more complicated when we find out that Lacey’s best friend was murdered. Of course we all think he did it, but did he? We will just have to watch to find out.
Now that is the show, what about the people who are playing those characters. I was recently at a set with the cast and they told us some interesting little tidbits about themselves!
Kylie Bunbury‘s character, Lacey, is popular on the show, but she is into something that hasn’t been popular in a while. She shared with us, “I tweet. I don’t know if I’m a necessarily a good one. Most of my tweets are about video games and old video games.” Then she added, “Yeah I love the whole Nintendo, like old, old Nintendo. I’m trying to think what else. What did I just tweet about? Oh, Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong was everything. Crash Bandicoot I mean I could go on for a long time. My nerd meter just went up very high.”
While Avan Jogia, is being bullied as Danny on the show, in real life he doesn’t put up with that. He told us, “I started this organization called Straight But Not Narrow, and it’s a straight ally platform for straight people to talk about their gay friends, and kind of basically my through line with this is that if someone is getting bullied on the grounds of you know their sexual orientation, and you’re around and you are against that fundamentally, against that kind of bullying, and you don’t say anything you’re taking the same position as the bully. Your silence is louder, your apathy is louder than – it’s just as loud as the person who is aggressing, and so it’s making people who are around it accountable to the situation that’s going on.”
Then there is Denise Richards, who plays his mom. At home she has a house full of single digit kids, so what is like for her to play mom to a teenager on the show. “First of all, I thought they made mistake, and I’m way too young. Then I thought okay, I probably could, and then I thought maybe I’m his step mom because we look nothing alike, but then they cast the cute dad. I have a teenage nephew that I kind of you know I’m able to relate, but obviously a very different than having little kids.” She really doesn’t look like she could be old enough to play his mother either.
Jo’s best friend Nico is played by Ashton Moio, and before he was an actor he was a stuntman. In fact if you didn’t blink, you saw him in The Hunger Games. When asked what he did in the blockbuster film, he told us “Yeah it was the District 6 tribute. So it’s kind of like the stunt thing that it was sort of like an acting part too. Then I had that one line remind me where I’m like you know, it’s my knife, I didn’t take your knife, and he’s like, you took my knife, I’m like, no.” And what was his character’s fate, he said “Yeah I died. If you watch the movie I actually die like twice, but it’s going on in the background and stuff.” So re-watch the movie to see him die not once, but twice.
And here is another fun fact about Kylie Bunbury, on the show has a sister, but in real life she only has brothers. In fact she comes from a sports family. Her farther was a professional soccer player and now her brother, Teal Bunbury, is following in their father’s cleats. In fact Teal plays on the Sporting Kansas City, the same team his dad Alex played on back in the day.
So now that you know a little bit more about the actors, find out more about their characters tonight on Twisted at 9p on ABC Family.
Twisted makes its mark on ABC Family tonight at 9p and you don’t want to miss it!
Danny (Avan Jogia), Jo (Madelaine Hasson) and Lacey (Kylie Bunbury) were the best of friends, and they had the normal lives that kids have. But that will all change when they are 11 years old and Danny kills his aunt with red jump rope. He is sent away for his crime; and now that he has served his time, it is time for him to go home. And in all of that time, he has never said what happened that day with his aunt.
A lot has changed in five years since he has been gone and things are not the same. Jo, who is now an outcast, and Lacey, is the most popular girl in school, and they are no longer friends. In fact they don’t even talk to each other anymore. But the one thing they agree on, is that they want nothing to do with Danny.
As much as they try to avoid him, they can’t. Some of Lacey’s friends want to get to know him better, and one of the really wants to get to know him. So one night after a party, she will summon Danny to her house and that is the last we will hear from her. Not about her, but from her because she gas been murdered.
Of course everyone will think Danny killed her, but did he do it? We don’t know.
We will just have to tune in every week to find out, in this suspenseful show that is a perfect companion with Pretty Little Liars.
How will three former friends adjust to be being back together after all of these years. Especially when one fateful day ruined all of their lives forever. You can’t go back, but can you move forward? We shall see.
Twisted also stars Denise Richards as Danny’s mom and Ashton Moio as Jo’s new BFF.

Yesterday Shay Mitchell and Troian Bellisario attended an event for their show Pretty Little Liars that is back on ABC Family tonight at 8p and both girls wore outfits that revealed their long legs. You know what, the producers should take notice because if they wore outfits like that more often on the show the ratings would be even higher.
After five seasons The Secret Life of the American Teenager, the show that made ABC Family what it is today, is saying goodbye at 8p. We don’t know who will end up with who, who will break up with who and what will happen to everyone? And depending which cast member you ask, you will also get a different response if us fans will be happy with the ending.
When Daren Kagasoff, who plays Ricky, was asked, he said “Very happy, very happy. I think the fans will be happy too.” While Ken Baumann, who plays Ben, said, “I think it is a very emotional ending and it’s an ambiguous ending. I know that it’s going to frustrate a lot of people. I’m very curious.” Then he added, “Regardless, I think that it is an appropriate ending. I think that it makes sense with the sort of arch of the entire show and I think that—yes, it’s just really emotional. It just felt right. It just felt right to me when I read the script and was there watching it be filmed.” I guess we will have to see who got it right. And I wonder if Kagasoff liked it because Ricky wound up with Amy, and Baumann didn’t because his character didn’t?
Oh and the two men did agree that tonight’s episode is the best one of the series, so it sounds like the show is going out as good as it was when it started.
Then at 9p The Fosters makes its ABC Family debut. Stef Foster (Teri Polo) is a divorced cop, who is living with her partner Lena Adams (Sherri Saum), who is a HS Vice Principal. Stef has a musically talented son, Brandon (David Lambert), with her ex-husband. The couple also adopted a set of twins, Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) and Jesus (Jake T. Austin), and they come with their own set of problems. The two have different opinions on whether or not they should meet their drug addict mother who abandoned them all of those years ago. Now that she has come back in to the picture, they have to decide whether they want her to.
You would think that there family is full enough just the way it is, well that is all going to change with a phone call. Lena is asked to foster a troubled teen, and as much as she wants to say no to Callie (Maia Mitchell), she can’t. But Callie really doesn’t want to be with them, she just wants to be with one guy. She will runaway from her new home to be with him, and what happens next will change all of their lives.
So how will this family of five change with their new addition(s), we will have to tune in every week to find out in this drama with a lot of heart that is brought to us by Queen As Folk’s Peter Paige and Bradley Bredeweg. The Fosters is the perfect addition to ABC Family and I have a feeling that viewers will be adopting this show very quickly.
