Mia Mamma Mia movie has their man
March 7th, 2007 under ABBA, Movies. [ Comments: 1 ]

Variety is reporting that Pierce Brosnan will be Meryl Streep''s man in the movie version of Mamma Mia. "I said yes right away because it meant working with Meryl Streep," Brosnan told Daily Variety. "Secondly, I saw the show with my family in London, and found it just so wonderfully happy and joyful, and so pitched in time forever in the 1970s. What a kick in the pants, to be able to go off and spend time with Meryl on some Greek island, singing ABBA songs." Producer Judy Cramer said this "Pierce brings a certain smooch factor and we think he'll have great chemistry with Meryl in a romantic comedy. He is just the perfect choice."  I am curious to see how Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Streep will handle the singing , but then agan several non-singing actors have excelled at singing roles, like Reese Witherspoon.

Mamma Mia no! They are taking a chance on a movie of the show.
January 10th, 2007 under ABBA, Stage. [ Comments: none ]

"Mamma Mia!" — an adaptation of the popular ABBA stage musical — is coming to the big screen with a little help from Tom Hanks. The story follows a bride-to-be — raised on a Greek island by a formerly rebellious mom who never disclosed the identity of her father — who locates three men who might be her father and invites them to her wedding. The musical features 22 ABBA songs, including "Dancing Queen," "Take a Chance on Me" and "The Winner Takes It All." Since opening in London in 1999, the show has grossed more than $1 billion with productions running around the globe. Theater veteran Phyllida Lloyd is in negotiations to make her feature directing debut on the film, which Hanks’ Playtone production company will develop for Universal Pictures. ABBA members and songwriters Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus will serve as executive producers, along with Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson.

I love the play, but I don’t think it will translate well on to the big screen. Please I implore of Hollywood to stop turning every sucessful Broadway Musical into a movie.

Madonna is set to record with ABBA legends Agnetha Faltskog and Frida Lynstad for her new album. The pop star sampled their hit ‘Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie’ for her hit single ‘Hung Up’ from her last album, and the pair have now apparently agreed to go into the studio with Madonna to record new material with her. A source tells The Sun, “Madonna has been in contact with Agnetha and Frida for a few months. “Madonna was the driving force behind the idea because she was so happy with her sample of Gimme Gimme Gimme on Hung Up. “Agnetha and Frida loved it, they really warmed to Madonna for rejuvenating one of their most famous tracks.”

I am really interested to see how the song turns out!
