Tonight is finally the night, BH90210 is back on Fox at 9p. While the people look the same, it is not the show we grew up with. This is not a Beverly Hills, 90210 revival. Instead, it is Jason Priestley, Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling trying to pitch a revival of Beverly Hills, 90210. Make sense? It will.
The series starts off with Priestley, Garth, Ziering, Carteris, Green and Spelling heading to Vegas for a convention celebrating the show’s 30th anniversary. On the way there we get to know what they have been up to since they graduated from West Beverly.
Some of their scenarios are pretty close to what they are really going through in their real lives. Some of it is exaggerated. While other parts of it are completely made up.
Spelling has financial problems and works on reality shows to pay for her 6 kids. Her husband does not work. Unlike Dean McDermott, her husband on this show is a television reporter. She is best friends with Garth, Jennie is on her third marriage and it is going like the first 2. As is in it is over.
Green is married to a famous singer and he is a stay at home dad for their 3 kids.
Ziering is a selling machine and will sell anything with his face and his wife’s mug on it. Carteris is a brand new grandmother who is also the president of the actor’s guild. Finally, Priestley is married to his publicist. The actor now works as a director and he had anger management issues. As you can tell, that is not his life story.
Now that you got the update, it is time to see them in action at the convention. They do a panel and answer some of the fan’s questions. This gives us even more of a glimpse of how they are today.
When they are done with the fans, they go and have some drinks. It is like the gang was never apart. Although maybe they should remain that way. That is because by the end of the episode they will all get into some trouble. Things like, who sleeps together? Who has a same-sex kiss? Who steals something that leads to them all getting arrested? Whose spouse gets caught cheating on them? Who is a bigger bitch than Shannen? You don’t want to miss all of that.
However, that is not the end of tonight’s episode, You get to see how they came up with the idea to do the revival. Then next week, they pitch the idea to the networks and try to get everyone on board. Even Shannen Doherty.
Like I said this is not Beverly Hills, 90210. In a way, this is for all of us who grew up with the show. We thought we wanted a straight-forward revival, but what we are getting is so much better.
The actors are having fun playing heightened versions of themselves and we are having fun watching them to do so. The 6-part series is what we needed, we just did not know it. Now we do and we will spend the next 6 Wednesdays watching it all go down.
