Alex, Inc begins broadcasting on ABC tonight at 8:30p and you are going to be podcasting about this show tomorrow.
Alex (Zach Braff) has the perfect job at a radio station, a beautiful wife (Tiya Sircar), 2 great kids Ben (Elisha Henig) and Soraya (Audyssie James), so you could say he is it all. One day, he realizes his job is not for him, so he quits. He decides to start his own podcast company with his cousin Eddie (Michael Imperioli) and his co-worker Diedre (Hillary Anne Matthews) who has a crush on him.
Now that he has a staff, all he needs is a place to work with them. Eddie finds the some space in a nerd factory with a bunch of other people who also think they have the next best thing. Staff down, office found; now he needs to find someone to invest in his company. That will be harder than he thought. Besides finding an investor, he needs to come up with a theme for his show. What is he going to talk about? Then when he figures that out, what is he going to say?
It sounded like a good idea when he decided to start a podcast, now he is not so sure. One of the hardest parts about the change is that he gets to spend less time with his family. Ronni is a busy lawyer and she has let Alex care of the kids. Now that he is working on his own, he has less time to do that. She is going to have to pick up some of the slack and she is not the best at this mothering thing. Their son Ben marches to the beat of his own drum and he is OK with that. For example on the season premiere, he decides to a magic trick for the school talent show. Sorry, but magic is rarely cool, can he change his classes opinion on that? Soraya is your typical second child who has seen it all, yet she has barely been on the planet. All in all, this cast have such great chemistry together, you would think they are a real family. Actually, all of the actors on this show play off of each other so well, you would think that have been working together for ages. You can tell they all have a genuine love for their costars.
That is just one of the many reasons for you to fall in love with this show. Actually, everything about it makes you fall in love with it. It has so much heart and humor, that it will make your hump days brighter.
Talking about bright, Elisha Henig’s future is so bright he needs to wear shades. To read my interview with him,
I have interviewed so many celebrities throughout my career, and every now and again, you talk to one who really blows you away with everything they say. When I got the answers back to my questions that is exactly how I felt. I had to ask the publicist, did a 13-year-old really answer them or did he parents help? She told me it is all him, and that blew my mind even more. I told my friend about him, who interviewed Braff for the show, and the actor told her that this kid is amazing. Therefore, you have three people telling you this child actor is one to watch because he is going to be a huge star.
Read his answers below and do not tell me you do not find him an extremely witty charming kid. In fact, on one of the episodes they even say he is an old man trapped in kid’s body. I take it, as he is wise beyond his years, which he is.
SOW – How did you hear about Alex, Inc?
EH – I think I saw it on a billboard somewhere on the 405. The kid on the right looked eerily like me. It was a very unsettling experience. I immediately called my agent to see what it’s all about.
SOW – What was the audition like?
EH – First round was with the casting director, I remember it being really late on a Friday afternoon. Callback came a few days later and had Zach Braff and the producers there, so it was a larger audience. It had the school magic show scene from episode one in it so it involved pretty theatrical acting, which is always fun.
SOW – What were you doing when you found out you got the role?
EH- Eating an apple. It was nice and tart.
SOW – Did you buy anything when you found out the show was picked up?
EH – Couple hundred Disney stocks.
SOW – What is it like playing Zach Braff’s son?
EH – I guess it’s like being a wheel in a vehicle. I always believed that I could play a believable kid since I have a lot of real life experience in that area.
SOW – Were you familiar with him before you got the role?
EH – I have to say no. I somehow missed the Scrubs thing during my toddler years.
SOW – How have you been describing the show to your friends?
EH – I actually found it can be pretty hard to maintain friendships and be on a TV show at the same time.
SOW- What was it like filming the Holi episode?
EH – Colorful and powdery. The only time I ever used the shower in the trailer. Twice. (I still sneeze blue every now and then).
SOW – If you could have a Podcast like your TV dad has on the show, what would it be about?
EH – I suppose it would be a podcast about being on a TV show about making a podcast about making a podcast.
SOW – So I heard that you got your GED (or was it a different test)? What made you decide to do that?
EH – It was the California CHSPE (HS graduation equivalency test). I try to do all I can to prevent schooling from interfering with my education.
SOW – Was it hard to do?
EH – Not as hard as school, and well worth it.
SOW – I read you are a fan of William Shakespeare, which play of his is your favorite?
EH – I started my acting career doing the opening monologue from Richard III in an acting class, so I have a special place in my heart for it. I hear his other stuff is pretty good too.
SOW – I see you play the guitar, what is your favorite song to play on it?
EH – I used to play a lot of David Gilmour’s Pink Floyd guitar solos. These days I’ve been playing a lot of Charlie Christian jazz solos. I am also a fan of Weezer and Vampire Weekend. Also heard some good things about The Beatles.
SOW – What do you want to be when you grow up?
EH – I want to be things now, not when I grow up.
SOW – What are you doing this summer? Do you have any other projects coming up?
EH – A nice indie film would be great. Fingers crossed.
