Last month, the Oscars announced that they were making some changes to the awards show. The most controversial one was the adding of the Best Popular Film. They faced a lot of backlash from people inside and outside of Hollywood.
There is so much disdain for the new category that today they announced it will not be part of this upcoming Oscars. According to The Hollywood Reporter, AMPAS “will examine and seek additional input regarding the new category.”
Personally, I was looking forward to it because then movies like Black Panther and Crazy Rich Asians would get a nomination. The voting elitists keep nominating films that no has seen or want to see. Therefore, there is no reason for the average moviegoer to watch the show. I wish they were not such film snobs because I want them to recognize films that will have a lasting effect on Hollywood and not ones that will be forgotten the day after the show.
