To me the 4th of July is not about fireworks, it is about the
Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. Every year, I can’t wait to see how many wieners they down in 10 minutes. This year was one of the most exciting ones so far because Joey Chestnut and Matt Stonie were neck and neck and the whole time. But then in the final minute, the now 8 time champ, took the lead and downed a total of 61 hot dogs. That is 8 less than year, but all that matters it was 5 more than Stonie. So even though he didn’t break the record he set last year for how many hot dogs he ate, he did set the record for most consecutive wins for the contest.
Will he be able to do it 9 years in a row? We will just have to wait until next year to find out.
But until then, celebrate being an American today by having a hot dog. Just try to eat a few less than Joey Chestnut.
