New Regency has come aboard to finance and Firm Films will produce "Bride Wars," a romantic comedy being fitted as a star vehicle for Kate Hudson. June Raphael and Casey Wilson will write a new draft of the screenplay, which originated in 2004 at Miramax as a pitch from scribe Greg DePaul. The project shook loose after Harvey and Bob Weinstein left that studio. The comedy pits best friends against one another when the prospective brides have a wedding-date clash and neither will step aside. Hudson has been sweet on the project for two years, and she will produce with Firm Films’ Julie Yorn and Alan Riche of Sunrise Entertainment.
