Debbie Allen has been dancing her way into our hearts for over 50 years. In 1980, she found international fame by starring as Lydia Grant, the tough but caring dance teacher in the movie Fame. She followed that up by reprising the role in the TV series and earned a Golden Globe for her performance on the coming of age drama based in a performing arts high school.
Due to that role and many others throughout her career on Broadway, and on the big and small screens, she has been an inspiration to children all over the world by sharing her love of dance with them.
Therefore, Mattel is honoring her with a Barbie doll recreating her signature look on the series which earned her four Emmy nominations.
The posable doll is wearing a fuchsia off-shoulder top which is cinched at the waist with a gold belt connecting the shirt to the purple fringe pants with matching legwarmers to complete a look that was so ’80s thanks to her.
In 2001, the triple threat opened the non-profit Debbie Allen Dance Academy, and has been teaching there ever since. While not every wannabe dancer can take classes there with her, they can learn to love to dance with her through a lookalike Barbie!
The Debbie Allen Barbie is available to own via Walmart, Target, and Amazon for a limited time. She is the perfect gift for all the dancers in your life. And you can tell they are going to love it just as much as her littlest students do when she unboxed her mini-me for them.
