George Clooney is starring in the Broadway version of Good Night, and Good Luck. We will be able to watch him in his Tony-nominated performance live on CNN.
Mr. Clooney commented, “I can’t tell you how exciting it is to do something that’s never been done. CNN is the perfect place to bring this story of courage to so many more people than we could have ever hoped. Live TV. No net. Buckle up everyone.”
The play is a slice-of-life story about legendary newsman Edward R. Murrow and his news program, See It Now. They covered the McCarthy hearings in Congress, exposing the lies they were telling the American public. By doing so, McCarthy came for them.
Clooney played Fred W. Friendly in the 2005 theatrical version. However, on the Great White Way, he is playing Murrow.
Twenty years ago, when the film was released, it was just a historical production. Today, it feels like history is repeating itself.
I know this because I watched the film a few weeks ago. Personally, I found it boring and Clooney underwhelming. However, that is because I dislike him (and what the European resident did to the 2024 US election) and think he has become a pompous shit. Having said, I will be watching.
Believe it or not, I did not. But this is the first time that a Broadway play will air live from the stage. So, I am curious to see how it will go. And I hope it becomes something that happens more often.
While this is a first for CNN, it is not a first for Clooney. In 2009, he starred in a live production of Fail Safe on CBS.
Good Night and Good Luck will air live June 7th at 7p across all of CNN Platforms.
