Oprah Winfrey started doing her talk show when Drew Barrymore was just a preteen, so she knows a thing or two about hosting.
Tomorrow, when Lady O is on The Drew Barrymore Show, the actress wanted to know if it is true that her mentor spent a lot of time with her audience.
And it turns out Oprah did, and she explained how much time she spent with them. “My crew used to be like, ‘Oh my god how much time is she gonna spend talking to that audience? Oprah, please let the audience go.’” Then she added, That’s why this is so hard to do without an audience, and I was complimenting you that you got through it without an audience because you’re not getting their energy. It’s their energy, it’s their feedback, it’s understanding whether what you’re saying is connecting….so to do it without anybody applause to you.”
And that is why Oprah is the most successful talk show host of all time. She gave back to her audience, and they gave back to her. That is how it should be.
I started thinking of all the talk shows I have been to. The only hosts to interact with the audience, that I have seen were Donny Osmond, Regis Philbin, Phil Donahue, Judge Judy, and that is it.
Have you had any of the talk show hosts interact with you when you went to a taping? Tell me in the comments.
