Back in the ’80s, we fell in love with Ke Huy Quan when he starred in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Goonies.
Then this year, we just adored his sincere delight about being recognized by Hollywood again. He was as excited to see all of the celebrities at events as they were to see him. And he couldn’t control his happiness when he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Everything, Everywhere, All at Once.
His joy made brought joy to all of us. So much so the Vietnam native is an American treasure.
And I hope that is what President Joe Biden declared that yesterday when he met the actor at the White House. How could POTUS not make that declaration after that greeting?
I am sure that little boy on the boat with his family never thought he would someday be invited to the 1600 Penn. But he was! And that is what America is all about.
Quan is living the American dream, and I hope we never wake up from it!
