The Wizard of Oz is one of the rare classic movies that has stood the test of time. It is perfect as is and does not need to be remade or given a fresh take. That is my opinion. Sadly it is not that of New Line. According to Variety, they are working on a new version of Dorothy’s trip with the land of Oz.
“I am incredibly honored to join Temple Hill and New Line in bringing this beloved classic to the screen,” Nicole Kassell, who is directing the remake, said. “While the 1939 musical is part of my DNA, I am exhilarated and humbled by the responsibility of re-imagining such a legendary tale. The opportunity to examine the original themes — the quest for courage, love, wisdom and home — feels more timely and urgent than ever. These are profoundly iconic shoes to fill, and I am eager to dance alongside these heroes of my childhood as we pave a newly minted yellow brick road!”
Kassel has worked on Cold Case The Leftovers, Claws, Castle Rock, and Watchmen to name a few. Therefore, I envision her take to be dark, depressing, and violent. That will take away all the joy we got from the timeless film.
Am I the only one rooting for the Wicked Witch of the West to stop this movie before it is made?
