Hallmark+ announced today that it picked up Hope Valley: 1874 for another season. The When Calls the Heart prequel is the streamer’s #1 series.
“Hope Valley: 1874’s dream cast led by Bethany Joy Lenz, Benjamin Ayres and Jill Hennessy, has brought to life the rich characters and beautiful story crafted by showrunner Alfonso Moreno,” began Michelle Vicary, Head of Programming, Hallmark Media. “Our fans and press alike have enthusiastically embraced the series, making it especially rewarding to continue telling this story.”
The story which explores the earliest days of the frontier settlement that later became Hope Valley, chronicling the courage, resilience and relationships that laid the foundation for the close-knit town viewers have come to love. Lenz portrays Rebecca Clarke, a recent widow who travels with her 11-year-old daughter Sarah (Mila Morgan) to the Western Canadian frontier to escape a threat back home and make a fresh start following her husband’s death. When she discovers the boarding house she purchased sight unseen needed extensive renovations, Rebecca faced a tougher road ahead than she had imagined. Thanks to the fledgling community that embraces them – including local rancher and confirmed bachelor Tom Moore (Ayres), with whom she becomes close, and Hattie Quinn (Hennessy), a widow herself who runs the trading post with the help of her daughter Olivia (Roan Curtis) – Rebecca and Sarah become an intrinsic part of the settlement and they begin to find their way. Helping keep the peace between the ranchers and gold prospectors who are at odds with each other is Constable Alexander Vaughn (Lachlan Quarmby), who becomes smitten with Olivia, much to the dismay of local blacksmith Clayton Cooley (Jedidiah Goodacre), who has long harbored feelings for her. As the season comes to a close a sudden turn of events leaves their futures uncertain.
The 8-episode second will debut in 2027.

The Bear is serving its final dinner service |

FX and Hulu announced today that The Bear will be back in May. That is the good news. The bad news is that it is the Emmy-winning show’s last one.
The final season picks up the morning after Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), Richie, and Natalie “Sugar” (Abby Elliott) discover that Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) has quit the food industry, leaving the restaurant to them. With no money, the threat of a sale, and a torrential storm in their way, the new partners must band together with the rest of the team to achieve one last service, hoping they’ll finally earn a Michelin star. Ultimately, they learn that what makes a restaurant “perfect” might not be the food, but the people.
Am I the only one who thinks the series only had one good season, and the rest have been alright? So, I am welcoming this news because I have been over the show for a while but can’t stop watching.
The Bear premiers June 25th. And if you need a little appetizer. FX and Hulu dropped a prequel episodes yesterday for Gary, about Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Mikey (Jon Bernthal) on a work trip to Gary, Indiana.

June Squibb makes history with the Tony nominations! |
| May 6th, 2026 under June Squibb. [ Comments: none ]

June Squibb is 96 years young, and she has no plans on stopping acting anytime soon. So, today, she made history when her name was announced as a Tony nominee for Best Actress in a Featured Role in a Play for Marjorie Prime. The actress is the oldest person to receive an acting nomination.
Before she took the stage tonight, she posed for a photo in her dressing room. She shared that beautiful moment and wrote, “Basking in this Tony Award Nomination full circle moment 💫”
The Oscar-nominee has been working on the Great White Way since 1959, when she made her debut in Gypsy during its original run. This is the fifth time she has starred in a Broadway production, but it is her first nomination. Proving you are never too old for firsts.
The Tony Awards winners will be announced on June 7th on CBS. If she wins, she will share the title for the oldest Tony winner. But how can that be if she is the oldest nominee? John Kander, who was 96 at the time, was honored with a Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2023.
The previous oldest nominee was Lois Smith, who, at 89, was the oldest nominee for her part in The Inheritance. She went on to win the award. Smith also starred in a Broadway production of Marjorie Prime. Hopefully, all of that is a good sign for Squibb.
I hope I didn’t jinx her because I would love to see her receive a statuette on Broadway’s biggest night!
