Tonight at 9p on ABC Family we delve more into the mystery on Twisted. Avan Jogia, who plays Danny Desai, talks more about the role we all want to know about.
Before we find out more about Danny, the teenage killer who is back in town after spending 5 years in Juvie for killing his aunt, let’s find out what attracted him to the role. Jogia said, “Well, when I read the script I thought that’s kind of what intrigued me to the role actually.” Then he added, “Honestly it’s written in the way where it doesn’t matter what decisions they make the character do. It’s all very confusing because we don’t know if he’s just a down and out sociopath or if he’s just a very confused young teenager. It doesn’t matter what decision they go with you know.”
So how did he prep for the role of 16 year old that is seen as a sociopath by all of his classmates. He explained, “I watched the ridiculously insane American Psycho film. You know I just, I love film, so I probably watched them all even before I got to here.” It wasn’t only those type of films he was watching, as he told us “But I was really concentrating more than the sociopath aspect of Danny, I was also trying to concentrate on finding what it would be like to be in juvie and what defense mechanisms and walls you have to put up to not to have power in juvie and still be a power figure and not get messed with but also just to get through there without it. He often got good behavior so he obviously found a way to navigate that after 5 years.” And Jogia spent a lot of time researching where his character spent those last 5 years and he watched a lot of documentaries on the matter.”
Now it isn’t all bad stuff for Danny, what does he think of that triangle between him and his ex-BFFS Lacey and Jo. When asked if there is one, he said with a smile, “You cast three teenagers in a show, what do you want?” Does he think it will play out? He responded by saying, “You know look I think that as it stands right now Jo is Danny’s very good friend and Lacey, he just wants the unit back.” Then he added, “I think, here’s the difference now that they are teenagers there’s hormones and stuff. He just wants that original 11 year old unit back. But I think the bigger question is even if I didn’t go to juvie and did this awful thing, would we have all drifted apart anyway or would the two of us maybe got together romantically and leave the other person out? So it’s like, we’re just revisiting that whole thing under extreme circumstances. And so yeah I think that they will definitely play with that you know.”
Now as much as we all want to know about that love triangle, we also want to know more about that mysterious necklace that his dead aunt and Regina wore. What does he have to say about it? He said, “I think the necklace just becomes a important part of it all. It’s evidence and it links people to places and I think that’s kind of the first section of the season.” Then he shared with is, “So far he has been trying to figure out where that necklace went because you know she wore it all the time and now it’s gone. And we know as an audience that Danny has it, but no one else in the town knows that. So many questions, is it even the same necklace? We don’t know. But you’re going to really see them trying to get all the characters to understand you know more about this necklace and the history of it, and why it’s important to Danny.” Dun Dun Dunnn.
So tune tonight and every Tuesday night at 9p to find out more about Avan Jogia’s Twisted tale as Danny Desai on ABC Family.
Rizzoli & Isles is back on TNT at 9p and tonight they are getting political. Well not them, but the case they are investigating. A local politician is shot ala JFK style and now they have to figure out who did. All signs point to the husband, but is he the one who did it?
Since this is Rizzoli & Isles we also focus on their personal lives. The episode takes place weeks after Isles’ kidney transplant surgery and she is still dealing with the physical and mental effects from it. Has she reunited with her mother and her sister or did they take the kidney run? Then Rizzoli gets a huge surprise when Casey comes back to see her. Is she ready to take him back? You will have to tune in to find out.
I can’t quite place my finger on what does show does so well, but it is one of the very few police procedurals that actually gets it right.
We have heard the methods that some actors go through to make themselves cry on camera. There is the smell the onion, eye drops, pull out the nose hairs and/or think of something absolutely atrocious. And those ways might work, but they are not as effective as getting a really hard kick right to the balls. If that doesn’t make a guy tear up, I don’t know what will.
Dear actors, I am offering up my services to be your punter, if you need someone to help you prepare for a scene that calls for you having tears streaming down your face. In fact it is a specialty of mine!
Mandy Moore Tweeted the above picture and said “Just logged my first hour of flight time as a student pilot! Bonus= my dad is my instructor! #imonmyway”. Looks like she loved it.
Now I have to wonder if she will be writing any songs about the feeling she gets when she flies. Seems like something she would do.
