Charlie Sheen gets a huge raise
September 27th, 2006 under CBS. [ Comments: none ]

After two months of negotiations, "Two and a Half Men" star Charlie Sheen is close to finalizing a new salary pact that would make him the highest-paid comedy star in television today. Sources said Sheen will earn about $350,000 per episode this season from producer of the CBS powerhouse, Warner Bros. Television. This represents a hefty increase from his previous payday in the low six figures. Sources said CBS is kicking in some money for the pay raise for Sheen, as has become common practice for networks in high-level actor renegotiations deals. Sheen also is known to have a significant profit-participation stake in the series, now in its fourth season. The top of the sitcom actor pay scale remains the nearly $2 million per episode Ray Romano pulled in for the final season of CBS’ "Everybody Loves Raymond" in 2004-05. Sheen began renegotiating his deal in July, shortly after Warner Bros. entered lucrative deals to sell the syndication rights to the Tribune Broadcasting stations (for broadcast) and to FX (for cable), effective 2010. Representatives for Warner Bros., CBS and Sheen declined comment Wednesday.

You know Jon will be a Cryer over this, but not as much as Denise Richards.

Crossing Jordan loses it’s return date
September 27th, 2006 under TV Reality. [ Comments: none ]

NBC has made its first scheduling change of the season — one that doesn’t involve a show currently on the air. The network announced Wednesday that it will roll out a new game show, "1 vs. 100," for a five-week run on Fridays starting Oct. 13. It will debut at 9 p.m. ET, following an episode of "Deal or No Deal," then move to 8 p.m. the following week and serve as a lead-in for the season premiere of "Las Vegas." As a result, veteran drama "Crossing Jordan" — which was scheduled to fill the 8 p.m. Friday spot starting the 20th — is being nudged aside for now. Its premiere date hasn’t been rescheduled yet. "This entertaining game is a proven winner from Europe that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats as the pressure builds with every question and the financial stakes grow higher," NBC Entertainment boss Kevin Reilly says. "The introduction of this new show also allows us the luxury of saving such a proven and versatile series as ‘Crossing Jordan’ for use later in the season." Comedian Bob Saget ("The Aristocrats," "Full House") will host "1 vs. 100," in which one player will face off in a trivia challenge against 100 competitors. The solo player has to answer every question correctly, while hoping members of the 100-person mob answer wrong and are eliminated. If the player eliminates everyone, he or she will take home $1 million. Should the single player miss a question, the remaining players among the 100 will split the pot.

I give 1 vs. 100 3 weeks top. I hate to say it, but I do not have a lot of faith in Bob Saget’s hosting style since he left his Full House image behind him.

Hal Sparks previews tomorrow’s Celebrity Duets!
September 27th, 2006 under Queer As Folk. [ Comments: none ]

I’m so excited to be continuing on to the finals on Celebrity duets that it almost matches my level of amazement.

When Wayne Brady started the final elimination by talking to me saying "Hal, I’m sorry…" I knew.. because I have hosted shows like this… that I was safe. I was amazed. I knew that when you are building tension on an elimination that the first person you talk to is a fake out. I had been there with Carly the week before… I was stunned. And instantly grateful because I know so many people called in to keep me there… that’s an indescribable feeling. after they asked me to leave I went to the side of the stage and dropped to one knee facing the audience out of respect for how good they had been to me and to how Good all you guys had been to me….

I had performed the last two nights with the attitude that I was walking out of a room tossing a lit match over my shoulder. I felt that the style I sing was so ill-suited for this type of situation that it was only a matter of time. But I wasn’t gonna wimper or worry I was just going to accept it and have fun while I was there. When they said I was going to be singing with Dee Snyder… I thought it was a parting gift. Y’know, "Have fun kid! Lates!"
So when Wayne asked me his question I was able to give a really liberating answer for me because I believed I was screwed to start with. I said what I really thought and it felt good. obviously I hadn’t been holding back during this show… but there was a renewed freedom in just being f*cked. and..then …I made it! Thanks to you! You magnificent Maniacs!

It’s very awkward to be competing a) against people you genuinely like and respect and b) in a music competition..something that is so subjective. I mean how can you hold Jazz up to Rock up to R&B up to Country and say one is better or compare one person’s performance in one style against another performance in another style… the concept is silly at it’s base. But since you could win this kinda money for charity it’s impossible to turn down.

Everyone on the show has taken a decent amount of abuse in the press. We live in a time where aimless jabs are considered legit criticism. We’ve been called has-beens and never beens. We’ve been ridiculed for calling ourselves singers. We’ve been pitted against each other in fake feuds… But the thing that makes us all bulletproof in this is why we’re doing it. We each have a charity that means something dear to us. Mine is Habitat for Humanity. Specifically their work helping with the aftermath of Katrina. So… I’ll take some BS review from Entertainment Weekly anyday When I’m trying to help Habitat. Seriously does a snarky comment hold any weight at all if you are trying to put a roof over someone’s head? Or help fund cancer research or whatever your dream charity would be? No.

I found out today whom I will be singing with. And I AM FREAKING OUT! in a great way!

This guy is one of my vocal heroes.

If you guys enjoy watching as much as I enjoy singing this week… we may all spontaneously combust.

Thanks again for your continued support! I really work hard to make sure this week is the best yet.

OH and…this week… even though it’s called celebrity duets… each finalist sings a solo song. They gave me a pretty good one. I don’t know if it would have been my first choice but… It’s going to be really fun.

Big Love

I hope he wins because you know he really wants it!!! And if he were to win, he would so appreciate it! I also hope my hometown boy Alfons Ribiero comes in second!

Studio 60 is a huge TiVo Season Pass hit!
September 27th, 2006 under NBC. [ Comments: none ]

"Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," NBC’s new series from Aaron Sorkin about the innards of a network and its hit show has caused conspicuous comment and an auspicious initial segment, followed by a slight dip in its second week. But I got word from the net that TiVo has "raised our eyebrows" because "the audience has spoken." Todd Juenger, the vice president and general manager of audience research and measurement at TiVo, told me the series has broken into TiVo’s Top 10 Season Passes, standing at #8, according to the report on TiVo Central Online, which is updated daily. Hundreds of thousands of TiVo viewers were so hooked by the premiere that they set their TiVo Season Pass to record all these shows. Juenger said "No other new show has passed the top 50–except "Vanished" in #48. "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip’ is No.8. Stay Tuned.

Wow, this is really cool. It will be interesting to see if the networks will be smart enough to take notice of this? BTW Studio 60 is on my Season Pass too!
