August 23rd, 2011 under Jimmy Kimmel

Frank Potenza aka Jimmy Kimmel‘s Uncle Frank passed away today at the age of 77. The late night host had this to say about his beloved uncle on Twitter, “thank you for your kind words about a very kind man – my Uncle Frank – who passed away this morning”
Uncle Frank worked as a security guard and on-air contributor on the show since the beginning and made us laugh with his warm personality and innocent naivety. Some of the greatest moments on the ABC late night show were when his ex-wife Aunt Chippy and him would do different bits on the show. She would yell at him and he would just try to get one more kiss from her. There was something so sweet about their relationship even though they were divorced for almost two decades.
Potenza is survived by his three daughter, newborn granddaughter Franki, the staff of Jimmy Kimmel Live and his fans including me.
Today take some time to remember Uncle Frank and watch one of his hysterical bits from JKL on YouTube.
BTW Jimmy Kimmel Live is not doing any new shows for the next few weeks, but I am sure as soon as the show is back on September 6th, they will do a remembrance for their Uncle Frank.

UPDATE: Uncle Frank’s co-security guard Guillermo Diaz just Tweeted this about his buddy, “RIP Uncle Frank. Thank you for all the great memories. I know you’re in heaven. I’ll miss you everyday my dear amigo.”
