After what seems like forever,
This Is Us is finally back on NBC tonight at 9p. The episode starts off a few week’s after the midseason finale and everyone is going to visit Kevin (Justin Hartley) in rehab. Something he was sentenced to after he was busted for DUI with his young niece in the car.
Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) doesn’t want to go because she is still pissed at him, but Randall (Sterling K Brown) convinces her. Toby (Chris Sullivan) feels the same way, especially since he finds out something about Kate (Chrissy Metz) that he wants to talk to her about before they get there.
Finally, when they get to this ritzy rehab, the therapist tells them that she thinks for the first session only the immediate family should go in. While Randall, Kate and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) go with Kevin; Beth, Toby and Miguel (Jon Huertas) go to bar.
Now that Kevin is alone with siblings and his mom, it is time for him to express why he finds himself in this situation. We will learn more about his past and realize why he is there. As he talks to his family, he gets brutally honest with them. Maybe too honest. Will this cause a division between the big three?
What about the other three? As in the lovers. They are at the bar bonding and drinking makes that easier. As they bond, we learn like what it is like to share a bed with a Pearson. While their partners are in therapy, they are having their own a support group.
We also go back to the preteen Pearsons on vacation. Not only do we get a better insight on Kevin, but also the relationship that Kate has with both of her parents and how they see her.
Like I said in the headline, we are going to need therapy after this intense episode. So intense, I don’t know if I need to hug them or if they need to hug me.
