[ # ] WTVA does the right thing while covering a tornado
April 28th, 2014 under TV News

One of the things I hate most about television news is when reporters risk their lives during a breaking news story. Like during hurricanes, they purposely go to an area where they know there will be the most most wind and rain because it makes for good visuals. To me, it is stupid and not something I want to see because I know sometimes they are faking it to “make better looking TV”.
Well today, WTVA in Tupelo, Mississippi, was reporting on tornado that was over their city, and they did the right thing. When they realized that the tornado was closing in on their station, Matt Laubhan did the smart thing and instructed everyone to go down to the basement. To me that sends a much stronger message to their viewers than standing out in the elements. If the audience sees you are taking it seriously, then they will take it seriously. Am I right? So congrats for a news station who finally got it right. Let’s hope others follow suit.
Now when it comes to the tornado that caused a lot of damage in Tupelo, and the ones that have wreaked havoc all weekend long continuing through today; I pray for all of those who are effected by it. Know we are here for you, so tell us what you need.
