As we learned last week on This Is Us, Kate (Chrissy Metz) is pregnant, and tonight at 9p on NBC she tells Toby (Chris Sullivan) he is going to be a father. How is going to handle the news?
Talking about fathers, Jack (Milo Ventimilgia) tries to be a father of the year when he takes prepubescent Kevin (Parker Bates) and Randall (Lonnie Chavis) camping. It is not just a fun weekend for the Pearson boys, it is Jack’s way of getting his sons to finally get along. He knows more than anyone how important being a brother is. We learn this during his flashback as we get to see him around the same age as his two boys are in this flashback. Does that make sense?
We know that Jack and his dad do get along, again we finally see why in his flashback to his younger years. But what happens when Rebecca (Mandy Moore) gets a call from the nursing home where Jack’s dad is living and they tell her that her father-in-law is dying. She tries to reach out to Jack at the campground to no avail. Instead of having a girl’s day out with her daughter, Kate (Mackenzie Hancsicsak), they go to meet Jack’s dad before it is too late. Moore continues to bring it every week, and this week she proves to be the perfect wife, mother and daughter-in-law.
When it comes to daughters, Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Deja (Lyric Ross) finally bond over something. That something is Kevin (Justin Hartley) and the actor invites them to a gala where is going to be auctioned off. On the outside Kevin seems fine. On the inside, he is struggling with the pain from his recent knee injury. The pain is causing him to do things that might cost him a lot. We will just have to keep tuning in to see how much.
Back to Randall and Deja, they have that much needed bonding moment that will finally bring them together.
All in all, it is another great episode of This Is Us, that reminds us why tissues sales are up. And it is not because of allergies, it is because we are crying ever week with this family drama.
