Younger
debuts on TV Land tonight at 10p, and it is unlike anything else that they network has ever done before. It is so different; it will be interesting to see if people will tune in to watch.
While the show is endearing, I don’t think fans of TV Land will watch it. It is not the right network for this show. Not only because it skews younger and is a single camera comedy, but because fans of the network are more used to traditional sitcoms. While TV Land’s audience might not tune in for it, new viewers might.
Liza Miller (Sutton Foster) is a 40 year old recent divorcee whose daughter has gone overseas for college. Now that she is all alone and in the need of money, she has to get a job. But being 40 and out of work for so long, no wants to hire her.
One night out with her best friend, Maggie (Debi Mazur) changes everything. She meets tattoo artist Josh (Nico Tortorella), and he thinks she is 26. So she applies for a job, claiming she’s that age, at a book publisher and gets it! The first person she meets Kelsey (Hilary Duff), who recently got promoted to assistant editor and the two of them hit off.
Now she is partying with Kelsey and her BFF Lauren (Molly Bernard), dating Josh, working for the head of Marketing Diana Trout (Miriam Shor) as her assistant and she hopes that no one finds out she is lying about how old she really is. How long will she be able to live the lie?
I would be lying if I told you I loved the show. I really like it, but I can’t say I love iy. I just feel that it sometimes tries too hard. There is one episode where Liza has to pull out Kelsey’s tampon and another one where Liza sells her used underwear to men for money. I think if they didn’t try so hard to be in your face that people would like it more. Since it is that way, I think it will find a hard time finding an audience. Especially because the audience that’s right for the show would be more willing to watch it on the TV Land app, but the network doesn’t have one.
I am not saying don’t tune into this show, I am just saying it will have a hard time finding the audience it needs on TV Land.
