Universal announced that they are doing three sequels to 1973’s The Exorcist, and at least one movie will star Ellyn Burstyn. She played the mom in the original feature. But all anyone cares about is Linda Blair, who played the possessed child.
Since there was no mention of her and everyone wants an update, she gave it to us on social media.
“To all my fans asking about my involvement in the new Exorcist reboot, as of now there has not been any discussions about me participating or reprising my role,” she wrote. “I wish all those involved the best and I appreciate the loyalty and passion the fans have for The Exorcist and my character.”
The New York Post reached out to her, and she did tell them that representatives for screenwriter and director David Gordon Green called her to tell her about the movies. However, they did not ask her to make any form of an appearance in any of them.
I say f*ck ’em all. Without her, there is no reason to expand on the series 50 years later. She was the star of the first one, and she should be the star of the new ones.
The disappointing first sequel will hit theaters in 2023. The other two will stream on Peacock after that.
