February 2nd, 2022 under The View

On Monday, the women of The View were talking about schools banning the book Maus, which is about the Holocaust. They then talked about all of the bannings that are going on throughout the country. This led to Whoopi Goldberg saying that the Holocaust is not about race “because it was two white groups of people.”

Well, needless to say, that comment did not go over well with people outside of the show. Rightfully, there was a lot of outrage over comments. So she issued her “sincerest apology” on social media that night. “On today’s show, I said the Holocaust’ is not about race, but about man’s inhumanity to man.’ I should have said it is about both. As Jonathan Greenblatt from the Anti-Defamation League shared, ‘The Holocaust was about the Nazi’s systematic annihilation of the Jewish people – who they deemed to be an inferior race,'” she wrote, “I stand corrected.
The Jewish people around the world have always had my support and that will never waiver. I’m sorry for the hurt I have caused.”

Yesterday on the show, she apologized again. However, it was not enough for Kim Godwin, President, ABC News. “Effective immediately, I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks for her wrong and hurtful comments,” she said in a statement. “While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments. The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities.”

While I agree with Godwin, I don’t think it is enough. I say that because Goldberg has had a lot of time off for health issues over the last few years. Therefore, it will feel the same as that, instead of like she is being punished. I don’t know what more Godwin can do, but Goldberg should be punished harsher for her comments.

Now that I think about it, she does have a Jewish last name, so let her learn what it truly means to be Jewish. There are plenty of yeshivas in NYC. Send her to one of them to get a lesson to learn all about the struggles Jews have gone through over the millenniums. Just because most of our skin is white doesn’t mean that all white people consider us white. We are a religion and a race.

Now, back to The View. They need a new co-host. This week, it was apparent they need a Jewish person on the panel because not one of those ladies came down on her like they would go off on Meghan McCain or Elisabeth Hasselbeck. I am not defending those two, far from it, but they did get awfully quiet as she was talking. The only people who tried to silence her were the people in the control room who knew they had to go to commercial break ASAP.

I hope that Golberg takes the time to reflect on her comments during her two weeks off.
