Did you know that since 2008, every last Sunday home game in August, at Comerica Park for the Detroit Tigers, it is Magnum, P.I. Day? This year was a little different because Magnum, P.I. himself, aka Tom Selleck, showed up to greet and pose with the over 700 fans who put on a red Hawaiian shirt, khakis, sunglasses, and fake mustaches just like their TV idol.
Why do the Tigers honor the show and the actor? According to Country Living, Selleck, who grew up in the city and is a fan of the team, wore a Tigers’ baseball cap on the ’80s detective series.
The day also gives back to charity by supporting the Brain Injury Association of Michigan.
This is not the first time Selleck was on the field with the Tigers. In the early ’90s, he spent three weeks practicing with the team to prepare for the 1992 movie Mr. Baseball.
