Every year Jimmy Kimmel invites the winner of the Scripps National Spelling Bee to compete against him on his ABC show. Sounds simple enough, no? No! The late night host has his awwwdorable security guard Guillermo read the words that they have to spell. Still sounds simple enough, no? No! English is Guillermo’s second language and Spanish is his first. Espanol is a phonetic language, so he pronounces the words as he thinks they should be pronounced and they are so far from what the word actually is that neither the Spelling Bee Champ nor Kimmel can spell the word. Jimmy thinks he has the advantage every year because he hangs with his little Mexican all the time, but it never seems to work in his favor.
It might not sound that funny by the way I am describing it, but watch what happens Sukanya Roy and Jimmy Kimmel battle it out during the 8th Annual Jimmy Kimmel Live Spelling Bee! I found myself snorting, because I was laughing so hard at Guillermo’s pronunciations and the two trying their hardest to figure out what the hell he is saying.
BTW in case you were wondering, unlike the two competitors I never won a Spelling Bee Championship. But I am sure you already knew that!
