Back in November Kimberly McCollough announced that she was leaving General Hospital again and today was her last day on the ABC soap opera. The actress has been playing Robin Scorpio since 1985, back when she was just single digits. So you would think they would give her a proper sendoff since she has been doing the daytime drama for almost 26 years? Well then you would be wrong, very wrong. I tuned into the show today for the first time in months to see how she would be exiting the show and disappointment wouldn’t even cover my reaction.
Here is an actress that has done an amazing work with her HIV storyline and instead of that getting her, she is killed off in a stupid explosion because her whiny cousin’s purse accidentally turned on a poisonous gas in Robin’s hospital lab and those noxious fumes left Patrick Drake unconscious. Robin finds him lying on the ground and drags him out of the lab. She runs back in to get the medicine that might save Jason’s life and she gets trapped inside. Patrick desperately tries to open the doors to get his wife out, but an explosion ends it all for her character.
Seriously that is the respect a show gives one of its most beloved characters? For the first, I am actually hoping the show will get cancelled because GH is no longer worth saving.
I am one of the few people who was not a fan of Robin’s, but even I think she deserved a better departure than that. Hopefully Kimberly’s directing career will go much better than her General Hospital death.
Even though I am disgusted with how the show handled Robin’s death, I will say that Jason Thompson, who plays Patrick Drake, did a great job with the crappy hand he was dealt. And we haven’t even seen Patrick tell his daughter Emma that her mom is dead. Maybe then we will get the tissues out and mourn the character’s death instead of throwing our tissue boxes at the TV in disgust.
