On August 15, 2017,
LucasFilms announced that they hired Colin Trevorrow to direct the last Star Wars film and today they announced that it is his last day on the production. They said, “Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.”
The news is not really a surprise because last month there were reports they brought in a new writer to go over the script. Plus, he was universally panned for his movie Book of Henry that bombed at the box office. Finally, fans have not been happy with the Jurassic Park director working on this feature since he was offered the job.
No word who will replace him, but the movie was not slated to begin shooting until January. That means they have some time to find a new director. Unlike in July, when they parted ways with Phil Lord and Chris Miller from the Hans Solo movie and replaced them with Opie Cunningham aka Ron Howard after they already started filming.
When it comes to who I think should replace him, I say bring back J.J. Abrams! Why not?
