Emmys
Let’s be honest, Tyler Perry is never going to get an
Emmy for his acting, writing, or producing. Yet, he is getting one. For what? He, along with his foundation, “will receive the 2020 Governors Award in recognition of their unparalleled contributions to shaping the television medium,” on September 20th.
“I’m grateful for and humbled by this recognition from the Television Academy,” said Perry. “I’ve always prided myself on the work we do at the studio, our diverse representation of people from all walks of life, and the community we’ve built. My hope is that through moments like this we can remind others of the power of ownership and show that when the world doesn’t offer you a seat at the table, you can build your own.”
If any celebrity deserves it, it is him. Even before the pandemic, he would buy things for strangers all over Atlanta. He was the first one to give Cosby actor Geoffrey Owens a job on one of his shows after we found out he worked at Trader Joe’s. Then when COVID-19, the entertainment mogul made sure his shows were able to get back to work and get back to it safely.
Perry has a heart of gold and deserves to be recognized for it. At least the Television Academy got something right this year.
