Shania Twain did an interview with Billboard and they wanted to know why she mentioned Brad Pitt in her 1997 song That Don’t Impress Me Much.
She told them, “You want to know the truth about this story? I’ve never told this before. I’m going to say it now.” Then she shared with them the story behind, or should I say in front of, the lyrics, “I remember I had a girl friend visiting me and it was near Christmas and we were baking cookies. I was writing this album and there was a scandal of him and Gwyneth [Paltrow] where there was naked photos of them. And this was like all the rage. I just thought ‘Well I don’t know what all the fuss is about.’ And this is where I got his, this is where I took it from. I’m like, well that don’t impress me much, I mean what is all the fuss. We see people naked every day. That’s really what I thought. I wasn’t picking on Brad Pitt. But that was just the association in that moment and things we make fusses about and whatever. Of course, it could have been any gorgeous guy.”
Anyone else disappointed that she was not talking about the fact that he is grower and not a shower? Because when I saw those nude photos, I know that is why I said That Don’t Impress Me Much.
Finally, I wonder if Pitt has spent the last two decades wondering why she was not impressed by him. I am so a Carly Simon song, I would want to know. Granted, I am sure he will be relieved by her explanation. He might have thought she was not impressed by him in general, when it seems like almost everyone else is.
