For about a year now, Supernatural has been teasing a crossover episode with Scooby Doo and tonight at 8p it is totally going to happen on The CW. If you went Ruh-Roh when you heard they were doing it, your gut was wrong. This episode is so swell, I would be totally surprised if The CW does not think about bringing back the cartoon. So how do the Winchester brothers get in to the cartoon?
The episode starts off with Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) battling a life-sized stuffed dinosaur in a pawn shop. Once they finally vanquish the spirit, the owner lets them pick out whatever they want as payment. Dean goes for the largest flat screen TV for them to enjoy.
Once Dean hits the power button on the TV, he and Sam have a Stay Tuned moment as in they are drawn into the television. Once they are on the other side of the screen with The Impala, they realize they are in a cartoon. A quick trip into town tells them which cartoon it is when they see the Mystery Machine parked outside of a dinner.
Dean is such a huge fan, he insists they go into the diner to meet Fred, Velma, Scooby, Shaggy and most importantly to him, Daphne. Will the Scooby gang welcome them with open arms? You gosh darn better believe they do. That is when the original mystery solvers, tell the current ones that they were left a mansion and they are going to check it out.
What happens when they get there? What else, people start dying. Like for real dying and now the seven of them are going to try to figure out who did it. Our boys think it is a real ghost, but as Daphne reminds us there are no such things as ghosts. Which side is right?
The Scooby Scooby Doo song will tell us. It would not be a Scooby Doo episode without that tune as they case the joint and run from the ghostly image.
Scoobynatural is the perfect mix of nostalgia and modernization. The Supernatural producers paid the perfect homage to Scooby Doo while still keeping the Supernatural feel to it. So much so, if I were The CW, I would give them a weekly Saturday morning cartoon because they mesh well together. I mean after all, they both investigate the wacky supernatural.
Whoever came up with this idea, you deserve a whole box of Scooby Snacks because this was a total blast. Whether you are a fan of Supernatural or not, you are going to love this episode. If you are a fan, you are going to think it is really neato.
The best part of it, and there are many, are Dean’s jokes. You can totally tell that Ackles was having the time of his life. This is what he was born to do. Don’t believe me, then watch!
