Back in the ’70s and ’80s, celebrities from network shows competed in sports games in Battle of the Network Stars.
That was then. Television is not the same as it was back then. Because of that, Roku has found a way to modernize it for the millennium. They are hosting Battle of the Streaming Stars. Actually, Terry Crews is hosting it. Roku is streaming it.
Anyways, the two 1-hour specials are described as: “Comedians, actors, reality stars, and creators from audiences’ favorite shows will trade the couch for the field, going head-to-head in larger-than-life challenges inspired by the shows and movies people love. In each hour-long special, three teams of four battle it out through several rounds in pursuit of a single prize: the Golden Roku Remote.”
“‘In the same spirit as the original series, anything can happen in “’Battle of the Streaming Stars”. Some of the funniest, most competitive people in entertainment finally get to prove who’s the best athlete in the room, and trust me, egos are going to get tested,” said Terry Crews. “Coming together with Yvette, Kay, and the teams at Roku and Omaha Productions to create this show has been incredible, and I can’t wait for people to see who takes home that Golden Remote.”
Who are that Kay and Yvette he is talking about? Along with Crews as the host, Kay Adams will give color commentary as she talks to the contestants about strategy and sizing down their competition. Yvette Nicole Brown serves as the referee, and she will try to keep the stars in check.
Who are those stars? Because that is what we really want to know! They will be announced in the coming weeks. Who do you want to see on the track and field?
So when is it coming home to us? The first hour-long special premieres on October 23rd, and the second one will premiere early next year.
