Even though most of us were not around in 1969, it is still hard to believe that this summer will mark the 50th anniversary of Woodstock. To honor the occasion,
Bethel Woods Center for the Arts will open their land up again for a 3-day music festival starting on August 16th that will also include TED Talks and exhibitions.
Since they are in the early phases of planning, we do not know who will be playing there and how much the tickets will cost. I would expect them to be expensive.
As cool as I think this is, I don’t think you can ever recreate that once-in-a-lifetime experience. Plus, you don’t have performers today like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison. Not only because they are dead, but also because their music had a much deeper meaning. Now it is all about selling out and autotune and not about getting the message across to their fans.
I am sure they are going to try to get the Beyonces and Lady Gagas, but they are not The Who, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane and Sha Na Na. How did I not know that Sha Na Na performed at Woodstock?
Are you going to go or are you like what the world does not need now is another music festival?
