Hot off the huge success of the live version of The Sound of Music last month,
NBC‘s Chairman, Bob Greenblatt, announced yesterday at NBC’s TCA Winter Press Day that he will be following up with Peter Pan on December 4th.
TSoM’s producers, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who also worked on the film adaptations of Chicago and Hairspray, will be back producing the live musical. But other than that, we don’t know much more because they just recently made the decision to bring Tinkerbell back to life.
Although in a post-panel scrum, Greenblatt, did reveal one thing. The role has traditionally been played by women, in fact, Mary Martin played the title role for NBC back in 1960. When asked if Carrie Underwood might have a role in this production. He then went over the roles and the only one that suits her is Peter and he couldn’t think why she would to play that part. So a critic reminded him that a woman has played it in the past. To which he responded, “It is usually played by women, but that isn’t necessarily, always going to be the case. Hint, hint”
So who do you think should get to play Peter Pan? I will tell you one good thing, Greenblatt said that Justin Bieber is not on his list, so that should ease things for you because I know it did for me. Granted, he also joked that Miley Cyrus was in consideration for it during the panel. Since she is not a boy, I think we can rule her out too…for now.
The only casting I would suggest is that David Hasselhoff should play Captain Hook since he’s been doing it in The UK for a few years.
