Back in 1974, Melissa Gilbert landed the role of a lifetime. Michael Landon asked her to Laura Ingalls Wilder as a child. Wilder grew up to be an author, and her books were turned into Little House on the Prarie. It is a show that lives on in syndication and in our hearts.

You think after over 45 years, Gilbert would have visited the house of the person whom she played lived. Believe it or not, she hadn’t been there until this weekend.

“I had the pleasure of finally going to #lauraingallswilder‘s home site in Mansfield Missouri,” she wrote. “If you have a chance to go, you must! The museum itself is fantastic and very comprehensive. But for me, walking through Laura and Almanzo’s homes was so so moving. Thank you to everyone at the Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Home and museum for allowing my husband and I such extraordinary access. #littlehouseontheprairie #halfpint #whatanexperience #roadtrip”

I am sure they were more thankful to have her there. I mean, in a way, she is more famous for playing Wilder than Wilder is for being herself.

Either way, aren’t these photos and the story behind them so awesome. I just find moments like this so interesting.
