Back in 2001, Mariah Carey had a mental breakdown and she has not talked about until now. Today, the singer told
People that when she was hospitalized back then, she was diagnosed as Bipolar.
Why is she coming forward now? She says, “Until recently I lived in denial and isolation and in constant fear someone would expose me.” Then she added, “It was too heavy a burden to carry and I simply couldn’t do that anymore. I sought and received treatment, I put positive people around me and I got back to doing what I love — writing songs and making music.”
She also told the magazine after a bad few years of breakups, some bad choices and some unsuccessful music endeavors and reality shows that she is in a good place now. Not only that she is on the right meds now and that is helping everything.
She is going to change the perception of the disorder the same way Patty Duke did in the ’80s.
