Hairspray, Into the Woods, The Producers, Dreamgirls, Rent, Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Les Misérables are just a few of the more recent Broadway musicals that have transitioned from the Great White Way to the big screen. Therefore, it only makes sense for Al Roker today on Today to ask Lin-Manuel Miranda if his Tony Award winning show Hamilton will do the same. The Broadway baby told him that he supposes so, but he is still waiting for Wicked and Book of Mormon to get their day in the projector light. But after that and a few others, “Yeah, at some point.”
I am sure it will get a movie adaptation before the other two that he mentioned because if they have not done Wicked by now, who knows if they ever will? I would love to see them both go from Broadway to Hollywood, so hopefully the big wigs will make it happen sooner rather than later.
