[ # ] Killer Tomatoes are coming back with John Astin
June 5th, 2025 under Mackenzie and Sean Astin

In 1978, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes rolled into movie theaters, and Hollywood has never been the same. It was a Horror Comedy like nothing we had ever seen before.

It was just the beginning. Ten years later, we got Return of the Killer Tomatoes, which was followed up by Killer Tomatoes Strike Back, and Killer Tomatoes Eat France. Not only did we get those four movies, but we also got an animated show that lasted two seasons.

They were all released last century, and since the early 9os, the tomatoes have been quiet, waiting for someone to dig them up.

Finally, after 30 years, someone dug up the franchise, and we are getting a fifth movie! Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence stars John Astin, 95. He is back playing Professor Nicholas Mortimer Gangreen, a role he played in four movies and the animated series.

Astin will be joined by David Koechner, Dan Bakkedahl, Finletter, Daniel Roebuck, Catherine Corcoran, Paul Bates, Vernee Watson, and Eric Roberts. However, there is mention of George Cooney rejoining the franchise. That’s right, before he was an Oscar winner, he starred in Horror Comedies.

J. Stephen Peace, who wrote, produced, and acted in the past movies, is chopping things up again. Why? As he told Deadline, “We are just going to keep trying until we get it right.”

So it sounds like we will be getting another sequel after this one because they will never get it right, which is why we love the cult classic movies.

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes 5 will have a limited release in movie theaters around Halloween.

Instead of the popcorn, they should serve tomatoes. How funny would that be? I mean, I didn’t eat tomatoes for a few years after my dad made me watch the first movie as a kid. Well, that and I didn’t like tomatoes back then.
